Redlite,

The settlement with the insurance company for the totaled truck included reimbursement for taxes.

I called Preston and they don't have any Red Lightnings.

Sheehy has called me and they told me that they had another Red Lightning. I will have to find some time to get up there but it looks like Monday at the earliest.

See ya!

Jim

Howardje, what I was trying to remember is what the earlier Lighnting post of months ago said concerning avoiding paying Sales Tax on a replacement of a totalled vehicle.

The writer said something to the effect that you take the pay-off check to the Dealer and sign it over to them, and they cash it. This way you do not pay Sales Tax. Could be totally bogus information, but it does not hurt to ask the Dealer about it. Might be one of those obscure things in the Tax Laws. Or, only applies in certain States. Who knows?

Woohoo! I bought a replacement 2000 Red Lightning last night at Jerry's Ford. I paid $28,200. I don't have it yet because they bought the truck out from under Koons Ford in Sterling, VA. I had negotiated with Koons on Tuesday and they would not come down to $28,200. Sucks to be them.

I can't pick up the truck until Monday because I will be at Summit Point racing my Z06 with the National Corvette Club. I can't wait, I loved that truck.

Redlite,

Thanks for the info, but the state has to get its taxes. I paid the state tax on the first Lightning and was reimbursed for that. Of course, I had to pay taxes on the "new" Lightning.

What you describe is another way of accomplishing the same thing. Incidentally, I paid less tax this time since I paid less the second time.

I wonder if this one will be faster? Hmmmm. I'll have to take it to the track and find out.

See ya!

Jim
