I notice the same crappy 2-3 upshift when driving with a light load (Long and slow shifting). Also with the R9 program I lost boost after my 1-2 upshift one time, but still won with a 14.8 1/4 mile time. My best 1/4 mile time has been 13.7 at 102.45 miles. I have bad 60 foot times (2.20-2.30)but the Carlsbad track sucks using F1 tires and I still learning. But like you said I'm very please with the Superchip R9 program.

Related to the R9? My R9 is fantastic, easy shifting at low throttle, firmer shifting as the throttle is increased.
Here's my dilemma - When spinning from 1st into 2nd gear and then hooking up, my truck seems to hold the engine at around 4000 rpm. Feels kinda like the factory cut-out of the injectors. If the truck spins in 1st and hooks up, it shifts fine and hauls a$$. Curious if anyone else had experienced this? Otherwise it is a great program and I've never had any pinging and I always run Citgo 93 gas.

Hey all,

Just put in my R9 yesterday, it is my 4th reburn since I bought the chip in summer '99. This is BY FAR the best shifting at partial throttle and it runs like a scalded dog. Only problem is that it pings at top end of second gear under WOT and on throttle tip-in of third gear when running around 40 or so.

I don't understand why others don't have any pinging and I do. I have always run Amoco 93 in it. Any other suggestions for fuel? Comments are welcome!

Later,

Collin

P. S. I wonder if my intercooler leak could be making it ping? I have the parts in my truck to fix the intercooler but still haven't taken it to dealer to have procedure done yet.

Ryan2kredL- Sound like your over reving on that upshift and the computer is kicking in for the limit at 4000 RPM's. I would talked to Mike Troyer about this he's very helpful about Superchip products.

Collin- I'm in SoCal and we only have 92 pump gas here. But with my bad hearing I would probably light pinging!!!!

there appears to be some evidence that 99's ping more than 2k's. I have a Swanson/Pro-M set-up on my 99L that performs very well..but I have limited my WOT 3rd gear runs because of pinging, thus I was considering the R9, but have not had any positive response from 99L R9/Pro-m users in California with repsect to detonation..

I run the R9 program and have no pinging at WOT. I haven't been to the track yet with it, but it shifts perfect, and launches like a rocket sled. Also, I have had no problems whatsoever with the intercooler leaking, and I have 23000 on it.. A couple good ones must have slipped through.. '99, too!!!

I just put my R9 Superchip in a couple of hours ago, along with a ProM 80mm MAF. WOW! I can definately feel a big difference in power. My only complaint would be that it has crappy shifts, not very firm at all. I really wanted to chirp 'em from 1 to 2 but no such luck. I've only driven it once since the install, so I'll give it some time to see if it gets better and maybe call Mike in a few weeks.

I have to also agree with the positive inputs regarding the R9 program. Mine not only chirps second, but it will smoke them through 2nd if I nail it off the line. This caused some traction issues at the track last week so back to the money tree. I added an airaid box (thinking about side panel removal) with the R9 at the same time, and am very pleased with both. I do also notice the slight studder before the truck shifts to 4th at light throttle conditions. It also doesn't want to shift to 4th until 45 or 50 (stock was at 40) no matter how light I am on the throttle. Side one of the chip has no studder and shifts like the stock setup but will also drop to 1st at 34 - 40. I also have a fabricated x pipe in place of the muffler and ran the following with 70F, elevation 2800ft, and a healthy head wind.
R/T .736 I know, rookie season
60' 2.188
330 5.968
1/8 9.080 @ 79.49
1000 11.751
1/4 14.026 @ 99.22
This was the only run I didn't get a really bad spin off the line. I still spun (F1's set to 25 psi) so I am consedering some MT ET Streets. Quoted $514.00 for 26 x 11.5 x 16 with 10" steel black rims from Discount tire. I hope this will let me take full advantage of my mods. Side one of my R9 Chip is labeled CUX1R9 and shifts at 5300 RPM, side 2 is labeled CUX1TRAXR9 and shifts harder and at little higher RPM. Side 2 took another 3 tenths off times from side 1. Considering my traction problem and track elevation / wind conditions, I am very happy. I know of others that go to a better track (I'm in Boise Idaho) and run anywhere between 8 tenths to over a second quicker.

Bummer, you know, I was really hoping Superchips finally got their act together. It seems that some are super happy but that a bunch are STILL having problems! I say that because this is only their second attempt. Fortunatly/unfortunatly I have Sal's chip. Fortunatly in that it is working perfectly, unfortunatly in that it appears he is quiting. No way I am sending my chip back to him if I ever want it to be recalibrated because it takes months to get it back.

Seems we have a super big company that is too big to produce a quality product and a super small company that is too small to be reliable. Here's the golden opertunity for the free market, a medium size firm that can actually answer the phone to talk to customers, yet be responsive to the problems that will come up with our individual trucks. Talk about a market niche! Only wish I had the mechanic know how to do it all. But then again, if I did, I would probably be rich! JMHO

Question My take on the Superchip R9 program

First the bad things. It has a miss while cruising. Also, when going from 2nd to 3rd, it do not feel like it shift correctly. I am also losing serious rubber on my back tires!!!

Now for the Great things. This truck kicks A** !!! I can tell a major difference. Example, back in the summer I ran 9.05 in 1/8 mile(with R7). This past Tuesday night (with R9), I ran 8.54. I'm not big into drag racing but I think that pretty good. The only problem is I want the truck to run good and still run right(not miss, etc...). Below are my times, are they about where they should be ??

RT .660
60 ft 1.915
330 ft 5.553
1/8 ET 8.54
MPH 83

I wasn't necessarily bashing Superchips. I have always had a gut feeling that my L wasn't as fast and powerful as it should be, with or without the chip. One of these days I'm gonna put it on a dyno and see if the numbers are what they should be.
