When I brought my L in for the intercooler leak, the service mgr. indicated that Ford pays for rental cars only for those with extended warranty. I raised hell, pointing out among other things that the L was the third vehicle I have purchased from that dealership in the last 4 years. He reluctantly agreed to give me a rental car through the weekend (it was Friday). The L wound up staying at the dealership for 13 days, and I was ready for a fight when I went to pick it up. There was no effor to collect for the additional 11 days of rental car useage. Perhaps they are purposely trying to maintain a low profile on this issue. They do deserve to have their *** kicked however.

Something is up on these intercoolers. I brought my L to the dealer, they checked it out, and ordered a new intercooler. That was two months ago. Ford has crap intercoolers and they know it. I think they are using the same operational protocols currently being used in the Firestone tire debacle. Step 1 - Ignore the problem. Step 2 - Deny that there is a problem. Step 3 "we have heard from a few owners but not a significant number". Step 4 - "we are lookin into it but everything looks good" Step 5 - take minimal action and see if the complaints go away. Step 6 - Engage spin contol. Step 7 - Blame someone else, (the supplier who Ford should be controling in the first place. Are they to stupid to pick a good supplier or is Ford's QC department sleeping at the wheel). Step 8 - only as a last resort, and only if it can't be sluffed off any other way, solve the problem. Guys I hate to say it, but we are a LONG WAY from Step 8. People have been dying in those Ford Explorers for 3 YEARS and it is just now an issue. We are going to have to get the right kind of 2x4 to hit Ford over the head with. Any ideas?

This is a response from BON. I has wrote them a note about various problems we have had with our L.
--------------------

We'll begin to look into this coming soon....we're clearing out some 1999
Cobra stuff which should post this week.

Also aware of the warranty issues. Ford didn't test the supercharger or
related components - it was done out of house. We're planning on having
someone beside myself talk with a few contacts on the program to see what's
really going on.

You can post this letter on a board if you like.

I'm not sure if they are going to look into the threads on this sight or not, but I did mention them!

Send Robert the threads to intercoolers. There are some major ones listed in the FAQ. Tell him we will help him all we can.

As was the problem with the paint on my 93 lightning Ford didn't do anything and in order to be eligible in the class action suit, which hasn't been settled yet, I would still have to own the truck and only original owners are eligible. The best method of action is to raise hell. Ford will grease the wheel that squicks the loudest.
If my current intercooler starts to leak (my second) I'm going to raise the sound level a big notch.

I'm not good at listing these threads things.....haven't practiced with them.

Maybe we should all post over there on the Lightning section to get the interest going on the intercoolers. Each one tell their story, and maybe they will get the idea of what is happening. It might even bring out some people that didn't realize it over there on his board.

I have started a thread over there, if anybody would like to add to it!
