Talking CHANGED 1BADFRDs PLUGS TODAY!

3 hours and only two trips to the auto parts store. No 7mm socket where did that go? Bought long one. Got to third one back on drives side, needed short 7mm. In the mean time Alex drops 1/4 swivel on pass side. Never found it. Back to auto parts store, buy short 7mm and swivel. Rear plug on pass side has to be done by feel, can't see a thing. Put MAF back on and hook everything up. Pray loudly for help. Hook up battery. Everything runs perfectly. Alex leaves, can't find 4 d cell mag lite. Email Alex. Light sitting on intake, still on works fine. That was Alexs side to check before we closed hood. . Says truck is faster. No doubt it is the photon beam from the maglite. When my plugs need changing I'm pulling engine. Will install big block chevy. Plugs are easier to change.

We put those Jap plugs in. The -6. KGB, NKB,NGK or something. They were gaped at 35-40. We regaped to .45 on the advise of 1BADTRK. It had 12Es which I didn't think looked that bad but this BLACK truck is slow and we wanted to look at the plugs. Bet my RED truck will still beat it even though he has 4.10 gears.

Same plugs I just put in. Mine are also gapped at 45 on the recommendation of my spark-plug-installer-pro. He charged $60.00 but I think it was worth it.

TR 6 #4177 NGK, recommended gap by NGK 44

This is NGK's recommendation for the Lightning

Here is a picture of the TR6 V-Power NGK plug http://www.cars-n-trucks.com/ngk.htm

Thumbs up

Noel...how is your back?...I used the NGK's on my '98 Z-28. I saw an increase in power over the Platinum plugs that they had. The plantinum's are over rated...NGK's are the best....all the Z-28 Ennis boys use 'em..Noel...how many beers is this gonna cost?...this plug gig?...

I volunteer my truck as a guinea pig and now I have to buy batteries for the mag lite? What? Thanks Noel for all you help, honest!

Anyway, since these NGK's are good for about 30K miles and I have 10K on my truck now, I guess I'll be selling it @ 40K miles because I ain't doing that again. Not unless we go with the big block chevy engine Noel suggested.

I don't think that I was "PREACHING" the TM plugs. I discovered the plugs, went down to the company that made the plugs (they looked good), talked about what I saw on the Board, put them in and then road tested them for 450 miles. After the testing, I then posted my findings.

To me the this scenario does not constitute "preaching."

When FORDSALES says he wasn't preaching he wasn't preaching. And I know that for sure.

Wow. Maybe I don't want to bother tackling this job at all. I seriously doubt I could find someone to do the job _right_ for $60 (that is an excellent deal FORDSALES). Chances are they'd just skip the rear two plugs, but say they did it.

I always do my own work, and this is probably one time it would be nice to have a good mechanic as a connection. Oh well.

Since the truck runs fine, I probably shouldn't bother with fooling with it, huh?

Cool

WA 2 FST,

I've got instructions for changing plugs on my new website (I created it last week so I'm still tweeking it for phone line users). Follow my advice about the 1/4" drive little breaker bar it will save you time and is perfect for the job. I got mine a Sears for $7.99 after the fact but tried it and it works great. You might find one cheaper somewhere else. The Splitfires gave ibfast and I better throttle response. I mean it was noticable.

1/4" breaker bar on third one back on drivers side? I was able to get it loose with just a short 7mm and the 1/4 ratchet. Once they are loose, you can just put the socket or socke and extension on them and turn by hand. Actually the rear drivers side was easy. A long extension went right down to plug unimpeded by pipes, tubes, or wires.
The rear pass side was the hardest and the magnet I have on a spring rod kept snaping as we were pulling the plug and dropped it back down. A shorter stick with a magnet or one of those plug sockets with the rubber oring that holds the plug in the socket would have been nice. Does any one know if you can get one of those sockets at Sears?
