Update on blown up engine
after picking up truck from dealer last week I took it to another shop outside of town where I know the mechanic real well and the service manager is a friend of our mechanic. Well anyways the verdict on what is all wrong with it is 1)the intercooler has a hole in it. 2)only 2 out of 8 plugs had electrodes on them. 3) all cylinders report 165psi except #4 which has 80psi. 4)very serious blow by problem, probably due to #4 (oil in blower and throttle body..ALOT)
5)#1 has erratic fire
#2 has no fire
#3 has no fire
#4 has little fire
#5 has fire
#6 has fire
#7 has fire
#8 has fire
One whole side has been wiped out for some reason. I would figure it has something to do with the computer trying to keep from allowing any more damage, but I do not know.
Oh well I think tomorrow is the day I find out if this dealership is willing to step up to the plate and take care of it.
Wish the LIGHTNING luck

No Nitrous was on the motor although the kit is on the way but now I am not sure if I want to go through with it. Somehow or another the motor went lean, I am thinking that it was either the chip or too much heat in the chambers from boost.
Through years of learning about NOS, I've learned that if it hurts your engine in any way, that's becuase it was used properly. I personally know people who run NOS on their "babies" and nothing has happened. Hook it up properly, and use it moderately. Just my $ .02
same here I have run all the way up to a 650 shot on some of our race cars and they lasted for a good 20 passes before it had a hiccup. There are a lot of other actors to consider with nitrous other than driver/tuner error. **** happens and with nitrous it only takes alittle peice of trash or voltage drop just to speak of a few mishaps.
But like I said there was NO nitrous on the truck.

It would seem that the cause is the intercooler leak

It looks like I will be getting a new motor under warranty
As long as there are no interuptions. Man I was really sweating bullets on that one. Guess I will be back and running soon.

I am replying to my post regarding the reasoning why the motor failed. It appears the intercooler did fail and they are presuming that that caused the lean out. I just wanted to make sure that noone mis interperted the problem thinking it WAS from the chip. I had stated previously that I thought it could have been but I was wrong. I have spoken with Swanson a couple of times and he is even going to check the chip out and reprogram if needed for anything. He has allways provided me great service and I don't want anyone to think otherwise. He even might have something new for it as well but I guess I will find out later.

It is still important to raise the issue about lean-out from chips. None of us have lost a motor from a chip-related condition - yet - but if we keep pressing for every last bit of horsepower with more aggressive chip tunings, MAFs, NO2 and who knows what else, it's bound to happen.
We don't need any hysteria or witch hunts, but every possibility has to be explored. It's up to the chip tuners to give us fast and safe chips. It's up to us to help keep them honest.

You're right BadDog but without monitoring equipment it would be tough to keep them honest. In the mean time all we can do is trust them...hmmmm...why do I wanna insert the Fox and the Henhouse story here?
