Post Norwalk Debriefing

We had a good turnout at Norwalk this weekend.

My wife and I showed up on Thursday, and we spent some quality time with Johnny Lightning and his wife Sue, and Spiro.

I was going to run stock all weekend, but Johnny decided I needed a chip and filter and loaned them to me. There went my last excuse for being a slow sumbitch.

Several of us showed Friday for test and tune. We were surprised that Norwalk only had leaded race fuel available. As several of us had come in on fumes, we had to put that nasty stuff in. Oh well I really don't need my cats or oxygen sensors anyway.

By Saturday, we had the whole contingent present, including:

Mr. and Mrs 2000 Blackbolt, son and friends
95 Saleen S351
98 SVT Cobra
Mr. and Mrs. Bad Dog
Chains
High Risk and fan club
Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Lightning
Mr & Mrs. PFA and their daughter
Silver Bullet and lady friend
Speedin Bob
Spiro
Topcat14 and Topcat Jr.

2000Blackbolt, TopCat and 95Saleen351 were voyeurs, choosing to live vicariously through the exploits of the rest of the Norwalk Bolt Warriors. 2000Blackbolt came around and entered the race, but no matter how I cajoled them to hang pork with the rest of us, TopCat and 95 just wanted to watch.

Turnout on Saturday was surprisingly light, and we just about ran laps during time trials.

At race time, Lightnings dominated the Ford Truck Trophy class, with 10 of 13 entries. The owner of one of the non-Lighnings, a ratted out old F150 with a dial of 13.80 or so, promised to send us "home on our trailers", but he fell to 2000 Blackbolt in the 3rd round for third place.

2000Blackbolt took the top honors in the trophy class, and I came in second.

The final round was the closest race either of us have had. I led him to the finish by a couple of feet, but I broke out by .008 seconds on a 13.80 dial. It was a major thrill for both of us, as it was the first time bracket racing for either of us.

Spiro ran in the 14 second and up "Hot Truck" money class againts various slow machines, because he wasn't allowed in the Ford Truck trophy class with his non-DOT slicks. This worked out well, as he won 50 bucks for coming in 3rd, and bought us a mess o' beer for the poolside gathering on Saturday night.

Unfortunately Sunday was a complete washout. After a few runs in time trials, the rains came, and the session was canned by the Norwalk officials. This robbed 2000Blackbolt of his shot at the finals and a $2500 Summit gift certificate on Sunday, but he did get to take home the biggest trophy I've ever seen in my life, a jacket and a smaller gift certificate.

Despite the rain, this weekend ranks among one of the best times I've had in my wretched existence, and it was great meeting and hanging with a great crew of folks. I'm really looking forward to a repeat.

Special thanks to Johnny Lightning for all his help and equipment loans (yes I bought the chip) and his wife Sue for being the honorary den mother.

Thanks to Spiro for the beer, and to everyone else for their advice, help and friendship.

Regards,
Gordon

Gordon you are right on the money with your post. My family and friends had a great time except for the washout on Sunday. I hope we can all get together again for another round of head to head racing. I hope someone has some pics to post on here of the event. I have made some great friends this weekend and hope to see them again soon.

Mike

p.s. Yes I did send that old Ford home because our Lightnings ruled!

I just wanted to say it was great to meet everyone. I also bought a chip, and will let you know how it compares to the R9 when I get it. The Chip I bought was Johnny Lightning's. Friday night I ran (all stock) 14.09 @ 97, 13.92 @ 98, then put the chip in and ran 13.57 @ 101, 13.66 @ 100. Saturday (in 77 degrees and 90 % humidity) I ran a best of 13.56 @ 101.4, all of these runs with stock air box and paper filter. Race weight of 4879 lbs. Worst pass happened first round 13.77 on a 13.60 dial, which acounted for my loss. I also got a good (rear) view of HighRisk's truck as he clicked off a 12.01 against me. Hope to see everyone again

Had a great time there! My wife and daughter are looking forward to doing it again sometime, maybe English Town, NJ. I'm glad we finally got to meet all of you and spend some time together. Sure wish BABolt would have made it .

As for the racing, I lost out on the second round , but still had a great time. The weather was hot and VERY humid. I think everybody was a little off from it.

Congratulations to 2000Blackbolt and BadDog on their wins and LARGE trophies!

High Risk was having some issues, he tried to put it together too quick. Someone recommended to him to use some Bosch 4-plus plats (OMG I don't know why) but these see to be a problem. Also Something was not right. Even so, he knocked out a ~12.00 but like I said the truck is in need of some problem solving, I bet by the end of Oct, it will run 11.90s off the bottle, and 11.30s on. (Just my bet)

Johnny L went 13.049 @ 103.75 to my 13.240 102.78 during our grudge match run. (Note: Johnny your going down next time)

I think Spirro was running pretty good, even though his truck is made of Lead...

I had a ball. I was great to meet some of the guys.

I had a great time this weekend. It was good to see everyone. I was a little disappointed in the performance of my truck and the weather Sunday. I was hoping to be in the 11's but at least nothing broke. I get the other torque convertor back this week and I'm going to change the plugs. I am also going to do some research on the TPS and if it seeing WOT with the different resistance. I'll let everyone know what I find out.

Spirro,
My obnoxious fan club (aka Shelly and Wanda) say they quit the HIGH RISK RACING fan club and are joining the EMPTY POCKETS RACING fan club Just a warning.

Empty Pockets may find those two to be even more expensive to maintain than the Lightning, so watch out.

Wanda's tattoo got old BadDog barkin'.

She don't sweat much for a fat girl (you had to be there).

Here's Mike with his big-*** trophy for first place in the Ford Truck class.

Here's Baddog, with his smaller, yet still exquisitely ostentatious award for second place.

Third place was a sore loser in an ugly truck, so we don't have his picture.

Cool

Thanks everyone - it was a blast. I chose not to run - much to the dismay of Topcat Jr. and other members - but some of you know why. Yes, I have plenty of pix - a lot of side-by-side launches, etc. I'll figure out where to post them before the week is out. Some I will forward on an individual basis if I have your e-mail address. I hope everyone had a safe trip home. I'm looking forward to the next event and to seeing you great bunch of people again.

Chuck

P.S. We made it about 15 miles down the turnpike before Jr. had to make a 'stop'. He said something about Winnie the Pooh turning him in to a party animal. O boy!!

Hey

That was a great weekend everyone! I assure you that when i get some miles on her...I will run her. Now that I have a hella long commute...it shouldn't take too long. Besides...I gotta race my freind with the GN to find out which method of blowing is better.
