Would you take a 3V head over a Ford GT 4V head?

Increasing the stoke on a already long stoke motor is going the wrong way for drag racing.

Increasing the stroke increases torque.. but piston speed goes up. **and** your confined to the valve size that will fit the small bore.

For drag racing (bigger powered guys) you'd want a motor that has a bigger bore and a shorter stroke.

Our 5.4L were never intended to serve in the way we use them. They were intended for low rpms & high torque.

Now don't get me wrong.. with enough money you can make the power and spin it at high rpms. But just as Sal said.. you'll be in for yearly rebuilds. There is just no way to get around piston speeds and side loads with such a long stroke.

Rich

virilha, what does VT say about strokers on the 5.4, they are building the motor, right?

Jim from VT never made a stroker for 5.4s. He made many for 4.6 mustangs.
Right now he is trying to figure out something for a 5.4.

Agreed. The 5.4 already is a stroker.

Umm..PS....Scott from VT engines shifts his little N/A 5.4L powered mustang at 9800 rpm and man does it sound good. Not bad for and old truck motor.

If you want to have some fun....study the Engine Master's series. Almost to a man they will down play bore size and concentrate on shortening the rod and increasing the stroke.....these are on engine that are expected to deliver every last ounce of horsepower.
Starts to make you wonder when guys like Jon Kaase puts 1/4 inch thick cylinder sleeves in a 460 ford so he can increase stroke and stay within the cubic inch rules.
