East coast Gen II's didn't show at L-Fest
hahahah
there were over 120 lightnings at JDM day ?
Obviously it's not a good location if you can only get 120 trucks to show up at an event just for these trucks.
Kansas is a great centralized location as far as geographics go.
Can anyone bring that google map up with all the lightning owners on it?
Let's get people to register on it.

I ran out of gas last winter and had a Mother going to drop her kids off at day care stop to offer assisitance.......Im sure that happens all the time in NY. So why would anyone come to Kansas??...Im just not sure....Nevermind I do know why people come here....its a great place to come to! Kansas city has great culture...great history...beautiful country...Best steaks in the world!...Awesome BBQ... great micro breweries..friendly people...great racing facilities (if the weather cooperates)...reasonable costs...AND THE BIGGIE...NO EMMISSION LAWS!!!!!
WOW!! can you say that??
Oh and for those who got banned from NLOC boo freakin hoo...you got warned and didnt listen or where flagrent about it..I remember when this site would ban you on a whim.
Think about it.

Not 120 Lightnings, but about 60-70. Just remember JDM day has about 2 weeks notice and has a 60-70 truck turn out. Lightning fest has 1 years notice and gets only 120 lightnings. If JDM day was set in stone every year (for a specific date), then it would probably get a better turn out. I see trucks from Maine to Florida show up with just two weeks notice.
AND ITS FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So the biggest reason is the price. Not everything can be free. Someone is paying for JDM day. And its not just trucks. Show me a picture of 40+ Lightnings at JDM day. 3 days of basically unlimited racing for under $85 bucks is an AWESOME deal, the chance to hang out with old friends and fellow enthusiasts is as the commercial says priceless.
The trucks havent been made in 3 model years - That means that they are now being sold to thier second or 3 rd owner - as the trucks get cheaper and older the owners get younger and younger.
The unfortunate reality is that Lfest and NLOC and the rest of the Lightning sites and organizations are likley heading towards the end. Unless Ford starts making Lightnings again the events and the websites and the clubs will cease to be viable. You should take advantage of the opportunities as they come.
2 years ago TALON brought 30 trucks in one convoy - So yes there are a lot of Lightning enthusiasts in Texas.

I must admit it was a erie feeling standing in the burn out box at KCIR and talking to the track official. The place was quiet, there were 2 hours left of racing on Saturday night and only a few trucks dribbled in here and there to break the beams. On the east coast they close the lanes at 10:30pm and all lanes are packed with racers. You don't need a oil down or you were going home with only 1-2 passes all night... Some people I know went to Acto and never even made a pass on the super crowded nights. Just wondering what the actual showing was at L-Fest this year. From the Group pic on the strip , I don't think there were more than 75 trucks. Maybe some didn't get in the group pic but who knows.. I will say one thing , I saw less breaks in the 3 days of racing out at KCIR then your average Friday night at any of the east coast tracks!!!...

Assuming there were 3 or 4 BIG GN events a year in 1987 how many are still being held ?
Thats my point...
Cease to be viable means that websites arent free - if they dont get enough traffic to generate ad revenue to cover hosting costs then they "Cease to be viable"

you are being very nearsited with that statement,,,whats really important is how many pepole were there,,,,not how many pepole paid. how many pepole showed up is a very good indicator on how many pepole will pay next year

As far as this whole debate goes, I'll say the same thing here I said on NLOC. You coasties need to quit your cryin. It all comes down to how bad you want to be there. If it was on either of the coasts, you can bet your butt I'd be there. If you can't get vacation time or afford the trip, I don't see how that justifies a change in venue. You don't plan an event as to what is the most convienient for the few, you plan around the many.
You guys that are cryin, keep going to your "Free" JDM days. Meanwhile, I'll be kicking back brews with the Germans here in KC next year. (Yeah, we had two guys from Germany there. If they could make it to KC....)
