A little info about chips and pinging
Hey all, Sal here. First off, let me just tell anyone who has my chip and has detonation, just send it back with a description of the pinging, and I'll adjust the calibration. With that said, let me explain a few things about detonation problems with chips (all brands). I will be the first to admit, that many people have had pinging problems with my chips as of late, mostly on the west coast, but not limited to it. The two main complaints have been ping on light to moderate tip in, and slight pinging at high rpm WOT. This is a result of aggressive timing in the calibrations. Not just by me, but by all chip manufacturers. And since new Lightning owners are so extreme about performance, as evident by all the chip debates, it creates some problems for us chip tuners. The big problem is that everyone wants their truck to be faster than the other guys. This is, of course, a natural thought
But as owners ask tuners for more power, the chips get closer to the maximum threashold. The chip debate between PSP owners and Superchips owners really heated this up, as customers requested the most baddass chips to beat the other guy. Unfotunately increased timing and leaner A/F ratios are what make power. But improperly tuned, this can be bad. When I myself do my tuning, it is obviously on a truck. Air/fuel ratios and timing are adjusted to safe levels, while increasing power. I do have race only programs that have even more aggressive calibrations, and those are for use with race gas or race booster only. The chips that customers are having pinging problems with lately, are not "tweeked" versions of the regular programs. They are the off the shelf calibrations. So why would I make that statement, knowing that it sounds like not the smartest thing to say? Because I don't B.S. anyone, I tell it like it is. Those calibrations were optimum when they were made. Now the hot, humid, summer has come, not to mention poor fuels, and people have detonation problems. You will have this with any mail order chip. The same calibration does not work perfectly for everyones truck. This is why I have no problems re-doing them, because it's to be expected. I'd rather send out a chip with more timing and then have to pull a few degress, than send out a "detuned" chip just so it doesn't ping, and then maybe that customer could have gone faster with the more aggressive calibration with no problems. You will have this with ANY chip manufacturer. Don't beleive for a second that not one customer will even have a problem with an Inject-Tech chip. Silverbullet will feed you all this "wonder drug-like" stuff about Inject-tech because they are ex-Ford calibrators and since they are his friends and he is a Ford engineer with a holier-than-thou attitude, of course he is going to talk great about them and downtalk other chip tuners, and take cheap shots like misspelling words to be insulting. Inject-tech is doing the same exact thing that people like myself, Swanson, and any other tuner does. Unless they are calibrating every single truck in person, there is no way for every one of thier chips to be "perfect" or "problem-free". Once again, I am just telling you the truth. This business is full of companies that will B.S.you to death, and sound great doing it. I am not one of them. The honest truth is that the current chips available from most tuners, are currently on the edge of being problematic in some way, because owners have pushed it to that limit. At this point, what chip you buy is really up to who you trust to not B.S you to death.
BTW, this post is NOT intended to start ANOTHER chip war. It is also not intended to flame Inject-tech, to whom I will admit to hearing good things about them from the T-bird guys. The Inject-tech portion of the post was simply to respond to Steven *****'s (Silverbullet)usually rude and insulting remarks towards anyone who is not a Ford employee, and who also seems to be really good at shredding companies of which he has never tried thier product.

Hey Sal I know you deal with the products of Level 10, does Pat handle or install your products. I know Pat for quite a few years and he has done some excellent trans work for me. I will be stopping in to see him saturday with my newly acquired 2000 L about installing the shift kit and if he does install your products I will wait until both can be done together. thanks.
I agree After the remarks that Silverbullet made about the front end clunk I won't even read any thing said by him or her. I'm even ashamed that he from Mich. my home state.

Sal, again you are talking like a chip burner (Tooner), not a tuner.
Wrong again Sal...
I'm sorry Sal, you can see the forest thru the trees.
Think about>>> Why does is audiably Ping?
Thats all I'm going to say.
Look at my Dyno results.
My truck does not ping with crappy speedway 92 octane...
You will have this with any mail order chip.

Thanks for the honest comments. I plan on getting a chip in the near future and the PSP chip is the only one I trust in my L. Like you say every truck is different and anyone that expects a mail order chip to be trouble free is not getting the most for their money.
Silver Bullet
Is your chip an off-the-shelf chip or was is tuned for your truck?

I told him what I wanted.
He told me he could do more.
I said what, He told me, I said great.
I met him in real life the first time, he gave me his chip, he said it had what I wanted, and more.
I tried it work great.
I set up some dyno time.
Invited him, he came with another chip with something else he figured out about the truck, the "Wall".
"If you are not completely satisfied with your Inject-Tech chip, return it within 30 days for a full refund, no questions asked"
So if you intrested, Get a great chip, if not, I wish you good luck. www.injecttech.com
Guys I gain nothing if you buy Inject Techs chip. I'm just telling you how it works. And yes I think it is right to question a product when it doesn't do as promised.

SB,
You are just a pool of scathing negativity for anything that you yourself don't like arn't you? Sheesh. You had nothing but insulting comments to say when I posted the picture of my ARE lid in the bed-cover post... You get out of bed on the wrong side this month or something?
Daniel
PS
On a side note, the grammar and spelling in that other post and in half your comments here is so bad, I can't understand what you're saying most of the time! Atleast complain in correct ENGLISH so we can understand what you are moaning about.

I don't like the ARE's I spoke my mind, do I care if you do, well no. Do I like mine, well, I like other ones better. I like Silver200's Snug Lid better. I like BABolts cove better too.
P.S. I have tried a lot of things, and I have friend that have tried lot of things. We share more info than what you see on this board.
Is the cup half empty, no, but is full as promised? If not then there is a problem.
I'm sorry you feel Sal is always right, the truth is he is not.
P.S. Pawn I have looked at your post before, and well, take your own advise.

SB,
Where did you see anything about Sal in my post? My post had nothing with that. It had to do with your constant attitude of insulting anyone who has a product that you don't yourself like.
In the post about lids, the gentleman was asking for what lids people thought were nice. Everyone was posting up their trucks with the lids they liked on them. Did you do this? No, you took it upon yourself to be the ONE person who said "THAT LID SUCKS, IT'S SO UGLY". Did you even post your lid? No. Did you even SAY what lid you had? No.
I am saying that instead of being a jerk all the time, why don't you take it upon yourself to post something useful? Your InjectTech post was great, but then you had to go revert to insulting people again. I'm glad that you don't care what other people think yet feel obliged to cram your opinion down their throats. Atleast we know what type of person you are now.
Daniel
PS - As for taking my own "advise", that would be ADVICE. If you can find a post of mine that has anything near your low level of grammar, I'd like to see it. In your own post:

What the heck is that supposed to say?
Pawn, where did I insult somebody lately, without being heavily flamed?
I was defending myself, and stated my piece.
I didn't mention my Lid, because I all honestly I wouldn't recommend it. I don't have a problem if you like your lid, I just have a different opinion, and you should respect that. I, infact value you opinion, I just choose to disagree. Styling is a taste thing. And I agree, I was alittle too opinionated on that post.
Best Wishes,
Steven
