I have a question that baffles my mind and this is a generic question in regards to closed loop computer controlled engines w/EFI. The whole concept of knocking/pinging surprises me on these type of engines. Why is it that the knocking/pinging is occuring? What I mean is, there are knock sensors, which are designed to detect knock, send the signal to the ECM and therefore retard the timing and or increase the pulse width of the injectors to richen the mixture and elimate the knock. Yet we still see the knocking condition exist. No doubt it does occur (I've personally experienced this on several vehicles, both stock and modified), but it just surprises me that this does occur. Is it that the ECM can only retard the timing back a fixed value and that value may not be enough to eliminate the knock?

Your stuff is junk Sal. It's not your fault but you just have gone as far as you can go with the chip equipment that you currently have. Down here in the midwest on a 100 degree day, your chip is a piston eater. In New York, it's probably just fine. I wish you luck in your future endeavors.

I don't think Sal is out of line in defending himself from negative comments that are not being moderated. If the negative comments come my way, I will defend myself. I would expect the same from anyone.

Maybe Sal wouldn't "advertise" or defend himself if negative comments like Mads above were moderated....

If Mad had a bad experience with Sal's product, I have no problems if he discusses them rationally, but I would expect Sal to discuss his side of it also. Isn't this board supposed to help distribute information?

Mads comments seem to be personal attacks more than anything else.... and I think that this is where the problem lies.

I think LightningDammit has hit it right on the head. I really try not to "talk buisiness" as much as I do, but many people bring it up, or egg it on. I'll make a regular post, and have a ton of people ask PSP related questions. Plus guys like Silverbullet and MAD say stupid stuff for no reason, with no hard data of anything. And everytime someone talks about a new product, they have to throw in "and it's better than PSP", or "PSP's stuff is junk". They can't just say "I tried product X and it worked great". They have to say "I tried product X and it worked great, and it's better than PSP" even though they never used it or tried it. MAD and Silverbullet do nothing but downtalk everyone, and don't have a clue at the same time. Of course people, especially myself, have to defend ourselves at every turn, with guys like that making insulting posts all the time. And I sent Steve an E-mail wanting to advertise here, but never got a response. I'm on this board because I like Lightnings, I'm not like EVERY other vendor that posts here lately, coming on to make one or two posts to promote thier products, and then leaving the board. I really like the board, but lately I can't just come on as a fellow enthusiast without being hammered by idiots who seem to be here just to flame me.

since Mad/Betty is not selling anything and Sal is, someone is using that to their full advantage. they both know the rules, and one is allowed the last word, since usernames are dime a dozen. we are the losers in this chipwar, because of our own insecurities. suddenly the x or y brand chip became the dodge or chevy, and the war is on. we have met the enemy , too bad, we will probably lose a good source of information about the rest of what makes our trucks tick, for the sake of a chip. guess thats where the profits at, or we would not have so many players. how many of the other chip guys can tell you about your power steering/water pump? i know, it doesn't matter , it's under warrenty. i guess i'm old school. i reward the people that take care of me.

I've been watching this board for a long time, I learned alot of useful tips for my L, but never have I seen such bold and blunt useless bashing/spamming/woosy a$$ advertising in my life as I've seen in this board by Sal of PSP and his beloved dozen followers. Mr. "I only provide useful advise for users, and do not advertise." unquote!
Dam in the last couple months, "PSP 4way chip!" posted by who? LIGHTNINGTOONER? (yeah, I like that one better)
You want to advertise, pay for it like everyone else does, don't pervert the minds of the people that want to talk with fellow L owners with your nonsence bull****.

To the rest of the users of this board, I thank you for what you have posted, the tips and tricks, got alot of great ideas for my L!!
If you love your Lightning, DON'T go PSP. If these guys can't even afford proper advertising for their product, how can they possibly test and prove their products before they hit the market. Simple, they don't! Just trying to make a quick buck on the closed market.

My two bits, you love your L, take a look around before investing cash into a no-name company.

Just wondering, Why the hell are all you guys so freakin' uptight? This S H I T always gets out of control. Learn to relax alittle. Whats the argument? that Sals not paying for advertisemnet? Thants not our DAMN business,let Steve take care of it. Alot of you new guys really have no clue as to what type of enviroment we had here before the "bashers" arrived. This use to be a place were we can all share information on differnent mods.Now it's Just "bashing" all the time. I just dont get it, seems like alot of you just want to start S H I T up.Why ?

Who cares....seems to me that everyone rags on how much better this or that is than PSP...that usually is an indicator that the PSP item is the one to get....!!!

However...don't know yet as I am one of the few who actually doesn't have a chip. I was kind of waiting for the dust to settle...but it sure isn't yet......I can't even make a decision on one because everyone has clouded it up with claims. It's hard to trust those that you have never met.

Oh Sally, there you go whining again. I have personal experience with you PSP tube, filter, thingy, and two differnt chips of your manufacture. So far, with slicks in cool weather and minimul humidity, 13.40's is all I have seen. This truck belongs to a dear friend of mine and I am in no way badmouthing him.

This is getting pretty old. Ever since Sal bought his Lightning and began tinkering on it, we all have profited. In the past he routinely posted information on everything from soup to nuts, including his latest tips on how to properly wire a bypass switch for your intercooler pump. If my memory is correct, Sal and his company, and Mike from Superchips were the only two people working with those of us who purchased 99's. All the others are "johnnie come lately's" who only jumped in after most of the R & D had already been done. In fact, I would venture to bet a few of them bought chips from Sal and/or Mike to study. I've said it here before and Sal mentioned it again in his post. Most, if not all the chips are now pushing the envelope beyond safe parameters. In their quest to "out-do" each other, owners are experiencing problems which will lead to voided warrantys if they are not careful. Even before I sold mine, the first question asked when I went in for service was, "do you have an aftermarket chip?" Let's face it, you can only get so much out of a chip. If you want more, then it's probably time to think about other mods.
Taking pot shots at any of the tuners is counter-productive. I, for one think Sal has earned his place here, and not because he produces a good chip. It's because he is a Lightning owner, who has shared with us all his knowledge as an owner. The fact he makes a few speed parts for the Lightning only enhances his position here, it does not secure it. It's his continued R & D which he shares freely that makes him a valued member of this family. Perhaps some of the newbies had better think a bit before they fire from the hip.

 

I agree with Spiro, PBgas and Mswain completely. It is a few of the newbies that are the ones causing all the problems.

Instead of picking on Sal, maybe you should get these few get in-line. It would be a lot more enjoyable if we could have things like they were several months ago. I see in one thread that Superchips initiated, Mike had at least 9 posts in 2 days where he was basically advertising.

Perhaps this is selective memory '00BlackLightning. Take a look through the history of these boards, I have revoked the posting rights of *several* people, some of them involved with some type of public controversy revolving around Lightning's or Sal. Why is that?

I will stand by what I have been saying all along. Sal is making money off of his presence here. Of that there is no doubt. The visibility of his company seems to be getting higher and higher. He knows how much others have and are paying for advertising here. He chooses not to contibute financially, because the specific type of advertising he wants to do is not available here.

He chooses not to contribute financially, so he (and other vendors, Sal just happened to be singled out a few more times in this thread) should respect me and the work I do in maintaining these boards so they don't turn into the troublespots that other site have without even questioning.

I've respected him and his opinions on these boards enough to overlook some rules violations. I have even put up with a lot of bull**** that surrounded competitors and unhappy users of his product. There are times that I feel I am maintaining his business forum.

But, I keep getting excuses. Frankly I am damn tired of it. Sal, here we go again, if you want to defend your company, create a high quality, informational web site and direct people there. I am getting tired of having to clean up your crap.

I have to start bringing things back under control here with the vendors, as the computer chip market seems to be breaking open at the seams on these message boards and some are getting quite immature about brand (and personal) bashing. We have discussed this in the past (and I have been lapse of late in enforcing this), but please do not use these forums to conduct your business. You have a website and email, please do it there...here is an example of exactly what I mean...

Encourage your customers to communicate with you via your site and some of the immaturity will go away. I don't enjoy moderating arguments that arise between or because of vendors because this site here for the owners, not the vendors.
