Hey lightningOOn93cobra, I tried the star washer idea, this past week. It was posted here awhile ago. Seems to be working so far. Nothing to lose by trying it. Ford doesn't seem to recognize it as a problem.

Yea, thats what it is. Actually, before all the dealerships got the star washers, my ford front end guy and I got on both ends of the bolt with two 1/2 drive sockets and put mega ft lbs of torque on it and it hasn't clunked since.

i took my 99 in last week the tech lined it up and i asked if he put on the star washer.. he didn't said he tightned it up. so he put it back up on the lift and it was loose as a goose. he thinks it may have been in a bind when he tightned it the first time so he tack welded the washer to the frame.. you can take a grinder and get rid of the tack easy for adjustment.. he didn't think the star washer would do any good and i agree with him.. it would wear out and work loose in time.. he said he would start checking every 150 that he worked on now..

I got the lower control arm fix back in January. Everything is just fine. This is the fix for my 99 L as specified by the SVT the tech line. The bolt and washer that SilverBullet posted looks exactly like the one mine.

My problems where the clunk noise, an occasional very loud bank noise, erratic steering that included excessive pulling, lane hunting and darting sensation.
Hanging on to the steering wheel was a chore at highway speeds.

If do not have the part numbers, do a search on "redlite" and you should see them. Otherwise ask me.

I had the star washer fix done 3800 miles ago and the area around it was repainted. So far no movement and no noise.

My tech swore up and down that these bolts couldn't possibly be moving. However I haven't heard a peep from the front end since. He is wisely painting up the bolt on all incoming L's before delivery. Then he can tell if they are moving.

He is a non-believer but at least he fixed it!
