PBGas,
Call me Homer for not asking yet he didn't offer either. Sooner the better to be safe.
Don't get one too close your ADD kids...or then again...it might help.

Group Buy UPDATE......WITH UPGRADED SPECS
As of this morning, I have a total of 7 interested individuals (self included)totaling 12 Filtermags.
I just got off the phone with Filtermag. Good news and so-so news. But first, an update....
The original manufacturer is now selling the magnet directly. The company previously marketing the product is OOB (out-o-business)
Good news:
Product update/upgrade!!!
Listed below are the latest specs first then older specs I received during our phone conversation.
Particle capture size: >= 2 micron vs. >=10 micron (read, cellular level particle capture ladies and gentlemen)

Gauss rating: 54-5600 vs. 16-1900
Material composition: silerium cobalt vs. ???
Model Number: SS 365 vs. irrelevant number
So-so news.
Before the price was 39.95 + shipping for the old specs listed above. The current price is 59.95 (plus shipping).
HERE'S the Deal (I will post this on a new thread as well)
They set up a deal named "F150 Online Discount" in which we receive 10% off the 59.95 price (shipping NOT included). Therefore, the price is 53.95 plus shipping. The person I spoke with was Bill (the only "Bill" in customer service) not sure if the pun was intended. Their phone number is 1-800-345-8376. Again, ask for the F-15o Online Discount and/or talk to Bill. Nice guy...please be nice
I cant say enough about this product. The higher price is fine with me for the magnet is four times stronger.
PFM (Pure Fruckin Magic). All you need to do is try it and cut open the filter when you change the oil.
I ordered two (just in case). My dealership is footing hte bil for one of them for throwing away my old one. DOOM on THEM, free upgrade!!

I know the kind of magnets in use here; they are similar to the sort that are used in modern disc drives; rare earth monsters. I have such a souvenir from a disc drive on my refrigerator at home; it is almost impossible to lift it directly from the surface of the refrigerator door... you have to slide it off. My family doesn't use it for messages because they can't get it off of the door. Guess I'll just take the thing off the door and apply it (carefully!) to my oil filter; it ought to work just fine.

Well, it sounds like BS to me so I contacted Chris, my oil guru, that does the oil tests. Here is his reply:
Damn... you guys are behind the times :-) I've been running a Magnaforce oil filter magnet since it came out. Then they introduced a stronger magnet a year or two ago and I upgraded...
The theory is sound and I ran a few quick tests. "Should" catch particulates that are under the micron size that your filter will catch I figure. Plus it can't hurt...
-- Chris
Oh well, something else. Let me know the group buy price.

Riot,
In response to your post/flame...
"Big clumps of iron particles gathering near the oil filter and/or magnetically charged iron particles circulating throughout the engine, eventually gathering+combining at a critical location."
The magnet traps particles smaller than a red blood cell. As PBGas eluded to..If you have "Big Clumps" you have a much bigger problem and it isn't the magnets fault. If anything, It would actually assist in trapping the material and give you a heads-up to an internal problem BEFORE it leaves you driving a pair of shoes.
""Lets say it does work ...
Your oil filter would now trap more and more particles. Charged particles binding together in larger and larger clumps, clogging the filter - resulting the bypass valve kicking in - leaving the circulated oil unfiltered.""
A 5400 gauss magnet is VERY STRONG. Just try to pull one straight off, it is not happening, period. It MUST be slid off. A magnet of this strength magnet traps ferrous metal particles greater than or equal 2 microns, a size oil filters cannot trap. If you can buy an oil filter that traps particles smaller than a red blood cell, SHOW ME WHERE AND HOW MUCH. Or better yet, as the manufacturers directly. I bet they all say.... ">= 2 microns, No Sir."
Therefore, with the microscopic PARTICLES being pulled through a filter (that can't handle that size anyway) and trapped on the inside wall of the filter, oil flow and filter are unaffected.
Upon cutting open the filter, the area inside where the magnet was attached has a VERY THIN layer of material (it looks like the graphite you used to put on the wheels of your pinewood derby car in cub scouts.) Hardly "clumps."
DorGun1,
I religiously change my oil exclusively with Mobil 1 EVERY 3000 miles and use quality filters as well (Motorcraft, Purolater, Mobil 1)
This is not a fly-by-night, infor-mercial, promises promises, retrofit. If you don't believe them, negotiate a "pending satisfaction" deal and try it.
As posted earlier, I will be taking (and posting) pictures of a filter I cut open for illustrative purposes.
In conclusion, I am not a paid spokesman for FilterMag. (maybe I should be)
If you have concerns about the product, call them. 1-800-345-8376. I'm sure they can address these issues better than I. Although I think I did a pretty darn good job.
Respectfully,
Speedin Bob
