Filter Mag purchase (good stuff!!)

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Due to the dumb a$$ grease monky at my dearlership throwing away my FilterMag when told NOT to change the oil (long story), I will be contacting them to purchase another unit (and the dealership reimbursing me).

This Magnet is a 12-1300 gauss (sp) magnet that attaches to the oil filter and removes ferrous metal particles from oil smaller than a red blood cell. I have used this on three different vehicles and have cut open the filter to see the results. THIS IS A GREAT Product!!!! The "sludge" accumulates on the inside wall of the filter looks like graphite. The cost for this is 39.95 + 5.95 shipping. However, I would like to see if anyone here is interested for a group buy and maybe get a cheaper price.

For those interested, either post on this thread, or email me at speedinbob@home.com I will be contacting them next week and layign the ground work for a group deal (hopefully). Please let me know before 6/16/00.

p.s. for all of you owning stallions as well, the unit will fit both the FL-1A(HP) and the FL-820S filters for they are the same diameter.

Fordsales (and all)

The Filtermag is an arc-shaped magnet that attaches to the filter. IT WILL NOT SLIDE OFF during vehicle operation.

If you want a "warm & fuzzy," you can use a hose clamp to keep it in place. It has been my experience (3 years) that it doesn't budge. When YOU change your oil, it slides off the end fo the filter. it takes some umph but slides off. I cut open every filter and am still amazed at the amount of particles it cathes. Seeing is believing. i'll try (TRY) to post pics of the cut open factory filter before the end of next week. My digital camera is OLD but i'll try.

I should draw a commission from these guys for I cant talk enough about them. Some fellow gear-heads gave me taht "yeah right" look unitl they saw my cut open filter. Their expressionwas then :0 make me a copy of the order form. I'm sold on it. I don't even like driving without one on now (see above) https://www.f150online.com/f150board/frown.gif

Go PACERS!!!

How 'bout some regular old magnets? Won't that do some same thing? Or do they have to be the rare-earth type? I thing I'll take apart an old speaker and put that one on there...

Shorty 06-10-2000 10:19 PM

Well...ok.

Speedin Bob 06-10-2000 11:57 PM

Tundra,

If I am not mistaken, It is the strength of the magnet (Gauss rating) that causes the particles to be removed from the oil. In theory, the idea of the old speaker could work but IMHO I don;t thinkt he magnet would be strong enough, or compact enough. TThis is a 1.5" by 3.5" arc-shaped strip with the magnets lined up verticaly inside the casing. When I post eh picture of the cut open filter, it will make more sense. working on it....

This thing is one strong magnet. You CANNOT pull it straight off the filter. It has to be slid off the end with some help. And, you dare not get it even near a Monitor, floppy disk, hard drive, VHS tape, CD, wallet, etc. etc. I tried it on an old CD. Just kind of brushed the disk over it. ALL GONE.

Please forgive me for I cannot remember from what material the magnet is made.

Hey Speedin Bob, do not take this the wrong way, I am a college kid, and I have to cut corners somewhere.

How about old speaker magnets with a coil of wire around them hooked up to the electrical system somewhere. Doesn't electricity strengthen the magnets? Or better yet a coil of wire around the entire filter itself, whats it made of? Could be iron right? Problably aluminum, but that would be perfect for an electrical magnet. Just make a 'filter boot'

Speedin Bob

exactly how do the mags work?? Are they placed on the bottom of the filter and taken off when the filter is replaced???

If that is how they work, I'll order two if you can get the group buy going.

Good response to my question.

I will take two, one for the L and one for my wife's car.

I am curious about how you used the magnet to erase a CD? CD's can only be magentically aligned & altered when they are in an excited state (aka, being hit by a laser). Thats how recording a CD became known as "burning".

I am interested in the magnet however if we can get a cheaper price.
