You (like alot of other gen 2 owners) think that if you don't have a gen 2 that you don't have a REAL lightning. What because a guy has some coil overs and ladder bars (or 4 link) he doesn't own a Lightning? Just because 99% of gen 2's aren't fast enough to need one isn't our fault!
Give me a brake, I was at the first shootout (were you?) these rules didn't exist back then (but they do now) Take the fastest 15 gen 1s out there (half are street driven) and with these bogus rules you eliminate 14 of them (Jody being the only one not)
I know rules are rules, and I think that the muffler rules is legit, but the others (besides safety equipment) are bogus!
Lets call it what it is (one sided)!

I guess, if I get picked, I will have to represent for us!
Hey Jody :: I just submitted my truck as well . It not fair if there is only one Gen 1 <> I'm there for ya , if they accept me too..
You know they need a slow farm truck like mine to make those FAST Gen II's look better. You can tie me to the whipping post........................................

here's the Real Scoop!
Here is the truck that almost Ruined the ShootOut 3 Years Ago. This truck Owned by Tommy @ Larocca's Performance made a 1/2 track pass & lifted to the tune of 10.73 @ 99 mph.... This Pass is what split the Gen 1 vs Gen 2 ShootOut for the magazine!!!

Whip, thats refreshing to hear! Most of the time us gen 1 guys get the "thats not a real lightning" the best was when (in the race pages) were the guy put that Johnny had the fastest lightning in the country, when there were at least 5 gen 1s running faster then him. and when you do have something nice (and fast) your told by guys that "thats not a lightning its a race truck".
In our minds if your going to have a shootout, have a shootout. Don't have these rules to eliminate amost every fast gen 1. People say "its not meant to be that way" well then change the rules. If your worried about it being all race trucks, the rules should be "street legal" trucks. There are plenty of gen 1 guys that drive on the street with a ladder bar or 4 link out back.
Don't forget about the animosity that most of us gen 1 guys have for Jim. I think mostly from the rules at FFW. 99.9% of gen 2 guys have the stock type suspension in their trucks but a good 50% of the main stream gen 1 racers have some kind of Ladder bar, 4-link, or coil over setup. So it comes across that the rules are the way they are to keep us from racing. Maybe these things aren't true, or maybe its just coming from the outspoken guys.
The only thing Jim (not jim jr he is cool
) has ever done for gen 1 guys is sell headers that Kooks makes, but has kooks bound up in some legal deal where you have to buy them through JDM for big, big (rip off) money. I bought a set, so I know his deal!

It's obvious that all of the Tuners want to be #1 when It comes to New cutting edge products, performance, & magazine coverage. This is how you get your name out there & sell more products. This is also how you make class rules up for major events like FFW (JDM) & NMRA (PSP). If Only Our customers can race than Only can Our customers WIN! That's a great way to hide for all these years now isn't it??
It doesn't look good in the magazine when you have guys almost 2 seconds Faster than JDM or PSP Fastest trucks.
This is the #1 reason these rules were made. The #2 reason is the Hate towards Johnny Lightning Performance & the fact that his truck is much faster than the other Tuners doesn't help his cause.
I'm just saying WHIP that the Tuners Don't wanna get beat by Guys that build there own trucks or get there trucks built else where.
I have no problems with any tuners out there but to say that Jim had nothing to do with these shootout rules would be a little white lie!

Come on Ralph.. This is bracket racing and Gen 1 Lightnings have just as good if not better chance of winning then a Gen 2. and there are plenty of Gen1s that fit the rules in tough truck and NMRA.
Gen2 Lightnings barely ever win NMRA (myself and Johnny are the only 2 I can think of in the last couple years that have won an event). Do the rules hurt stock Gen2 Lightnings. YEP!!!... will I still show up and race the rangers and whoever else shows up. YEP!!
3 NMRA events and 2 final round appearances so far.
Bracket racing is the big equalizer. 05 F-150s win and Lacey won the chamionship 2 years ago (197somethin F-150).
To me the better racer wins. Not the guy whos fastest, spent the most or has 7 pit crew members.
As far as the shootout , Is MM&FF rules any different for other shootouts?
Most I read are stock suspension and no heavy deweighting and such. These rules seem the same as the majority of every other shootout they do.
But I am tuned By JDM and have been in MM&FF(Even though most times have been for racing) .So I am just a cheerleader anyway , even if I am right.

there has got be some type of guidelines or rules,,,,,,if you really want to know who gets f@%ked on this hole thing it is us west coast guys.
what the rule states is a stock style suspension,,,,,i think the rule should be that you have to drive to the track (250 mile one way minimum) sort of like the hot rod gig

As for your driving to the track thing......best post on this board!!!! Instead of the rules deciding what is streetable...they should let the trucks decide that! What is that FFW class....true street? Where they take a cruise. Besides, how cool would it be to have a 30 truck field going to a 200 mile road trip??????
[QUOTE=VINNIE]
I agree with alot of what your saying Vinnie but Guys like me that have a 8 second truck are banned from FFW because the truck is back-halfed & banned from NMRA because the truck runs much faster than 9.10

Also, the 9.10 rule has nothing to do with the trucks, ALL the Open Comp NMRA classes are limited to 9.10. Just FYI.
