Question Considering setting up another board for Lightning owners...thoughts?

Hey all,

I am considering setting up another message board, identical to this one, same advertisers, layout, etc. specifically for Lightnings...thoughts?

If I do this, what forum categories would you like to see? The current archive of messages would likely be moved over into a single read-only forum and new threads would start from day 1...

That would be awesome if you decide to do it...

Sections I would like to see:
Mods
Tech Forum (gear-head stuff)
Vendors
Roadkill
Rumor Mill
Eastern Regional Gatherings
Central Regional Gatherings
Mountain Regional Gatherings
Western Regional Gatherings
Non-believers Forum (just kidding)

Hey AtomHeart!
What about a Southern Regional Gathering. You could even include Texas in it too. Naw. I think they may need their own.

Steve,

That is a great idea!

One thing that would definately need to get added in Big Bold Letters is a FAQ section for newbies.

Let us know if there is anything you need from us besides suggestions.

Evening Steve:

Consider this, kind of Duh, as anyone could do it.

Lightning Posts to date: 27186
General Disc Posts: 16753
Engines Posts: 13895

Out of a gross population of 6-7000 Lighning owners, of which only a fairly small number actually post on this board, it is a runaway Number one topic on the board. This, even though the f150online board does not indicate it has a Lightning thread.

If it's not too much effort, I think it would be well worth your while to do it.

Don't have enough time tonite to get into topics/content, but will definitely give it some thought.

Please keep us informed.

This is an edit:

Actually several things come to mind real quick.

1. You could define from the get go the advertising/selling policy.
2. You could also define your policy regarding flame wars/profanity et al, or as some boards do, create a "Anything Goes or No Holds Barred" thread and insist that that sort of activity be only carried out on that thread.
3. Don't know if this is an issue, but you could also do a policy on photos, perhaps suggesting or insisting that they be sent to the Photo Gallery section so they don't slow up the downloading of the message board stuff. Personally, I like the photos, but poorly edited ones can result in 5 minute downloads which is a pain. I would not mind being referred to the Photo Gallery for what I now see in the MB section.

Guess all of this comes under the heading of "The Learning Curve".
Bill

I've made several requests for assistance in maintaining a FAQ (https://www.f150online.com/faq/index.html) but never get any response. Message Boards are not the place for FAQ's, FAQ's are the place for FAQ's. Any volunteers?

Bill, all current rules/policies/actions that are enforced now would still apply. Nothing new unless it is needed.

I do not intend on re-inventing the wheel for Lightning owners, just giving y'all a more organized place to post (primarily based on the number you cited).

Oh, and I should note that these would not be intended as stand-alone forums. The generic stuff/forums (General Discussion, Events, etc.) that really do apply to everyone would not be repeated here...focus, focus, focus...

Great suggestion Steve- Basically, look at LS1.com. They were real good, (although they have expanded a bit too far, in my opinion.) Also, a Lightning specific message board might get some more sponsors to help out. This is the only board I have ever been on that does not do group purchases on accessories. That alone could probably get us some more sponsors.

Steve,

An FAQ? What a concept!

I'll put one together, if you would like.

E-mail me about any ideas/guidelines you may have.

If you want me to go ahead with this, I'll start a thread soliciting ideas and collaborators.
