Artie is right. The silverstars are an excellent upgrade and give off a nice clean bright light.

you need a 9005 bulb to replace the stock ones.. i had them before switching to HIDs nice, clean, bright, white light, just make sure the housing is clean of any dirt or debris or youll have moisture building up in the lens..

9145 is the correct non OEM number - 40 watt bulb

The 9005 is a 70 watt headlight bulb

The wattage is almost 2x what the switch and wiring was designed for and the light pattern is wrong for fogs
here is link and picture

here is the 9005

See the difference ?

i couldnt find the original 9145 bulb.. i was told that the 9005 is an exact replacement, and that was through ford service department at the dealership.. what a mess that can cause to the harness, but 3 years of a 9005 in its place and now the HIDs and no problems..

As you mentioned there have been problems with people melting wires

And of course there is also the problem of blinding oncoming drivers buy using 2x the wattage and the wrong spread pattern

If a 9005 is incorrect

Then what is a good replacement bulb, with the correct spread???
Because a 40 watt 9045 or 9145 is USELESS as a driving light.

A driving light should project further then your regular haedlamps, further, and narrower, to illimuniate just the roadway, not fill in the sides, like a regular headlamp.

It should not be a problem to oncoming traffic, because it is mounted at the lowest point on the vehicle, below eye level.

And what is the info from the person who did an HID conversion???
What unit, what web-site to purchase?? and did you do driving ;ights, and headlamps??? Inquiring minds want to know.

If you want driving lights you would need to replace the enclosure as well so that the light was correctly shaped. The Lower lights on the Lightning are FOG lights with a specific pattern. As far as on coming traffic if you are coming over a slight ridge your 75 watt headlamp bulbs woiuld be in thier face.
It would be just like running your brights all the time
