superchip/sals chip
Quite a few of you chaps have purchased chips. I'm about to. Do I buy a duel chip or am I better off with the single. I've heard good reports of sals chip and filter, but is it worth the wait...... and comments and help greatly recieved.
Goodness...If you go up to the top of the page, and click on the search button, then do a search for "chip" you will get more information that you could ever want on the issue...There should be timeslips, and testimonials for both. I am personally, waiting for Sal's chip, because I trust it to not hurt my truck, more than I trust Superchip, but I'm sure they are both find products.
Good luck with your decision...let us know what you decide on.

Is this a like FORD vs. Chevy ?
or does anyone have a technical reason one chip is superior ?
For example one could say SuperChip is more established, has more resources for testing,
easier to get a hold of incase you have a question or problem.
PSP might be a beter performing chip, but why would claim that, on what technical basis? Thanks for a reply : ^ )

All I can say I put a SuperChip and AIRRAID filter on and it runs great on my 99 L.
Both companies are probably good, It is just you can re4ach SuperChip with confidence, I can "never" get a hold of SAL.
If I lived near NY, I'd have him do the whole truck. BUT...

I've had my 99 now one year and have yet to buy a chip. I have serveral friends here that have them both Superchip and Sals. I don't think either of them have made the perfect chip yet, but I think they are both getting close. Superchips is a big company with many chips and resourses. Sal is pretty much a one man band, who does only Lightning chips and does it from his heart. He is hard to get a hold of because he has a regular job and has to do this in his spare time and still have a life besides. His products especially his air filter has received such overwhelming acceptance that he cannot meet demand. I think both companies are close. I give Sal a slight leg up on tech and a big leg up on caring. I think a little longer wait will be rewarded. Talk to people who have the chips and see what they say. There are enough L s out there now that you should be able to find some guys in your area that you can talk to one on one who have both.
I have friends that have both and are happy. and some who are still sending them back and forth. My .02 worth.

I think the wait on Sal's chip isn't very long, just the filter. He's already done the R&D on the chip and just has to burn and ship whereas the filter requires a lot of handcrafting on the piece it mounts to.

I am just wondering why everyone says Sal cares so much. The one constant theme I hear is that he is super hard to get a hold of and that he never returns e-mails. I totally understand he is busy with being a Ford tech and so forth. I have also noticed he never, ever, replies to posts that raise concerns about his lack of returning e-mails etc. My biggest concern is that he may never return my email if I bought something from him and had a problem with it. Does he get back with customers who have problems with the product? If so, I think that should be posted, it would relieve a lot of peoples fear of purchasing his product.

Maybe Sal's to busy to read all of the post on this forum and on NLOC I'll tell you if I wasn't off work with an injury I sure wouldn't have time to read all of these post. I don't set in front of a computer all day and can go online any time I want. I never have a problem with Sal returning my email. Working two full time jobs where does he find the TIME.

I haven't re-posted my results with my mods in awhile, so I'll do it again. I'm probably one of the few owners who really won't end up doing a lot of mods to the truck, so now that I've done a few things that WORK
, I'll be leaving it alone for awhile.
I bought my L back in late Aug. '99. After 800 miles I installed a Superchip and never looked back. Worth a solid .3 in ET/2mph at the track in back-to-back testing. Sal wasn't finished with his R&D, and Superchips claimed they were and several on this board recommended it. Unlike some others, I have not taken out my Superchip once. No problems at all, except that sometimes the tires spin so hard through 1st, that if I don't lift before it shifts into 2nd, I hit the rev-limiter and get the dreaded "no boost" problem. That's not the chip's fault. Now that I know how to control this, I don't have the issue (the shift kit also helped).
I got Sal's filter kit and it's an outstanding piece. Documented 2psi gain in boost with no pulley change or anything...just the inlet tube and big filter. Well contructed. Satisfied customer.
End of story.

Jag, since you probably weren't around for the fireworks, I'll explain a possible reason for Sal to NOT reply to posts that are directed to him.
Sal was told that he can't talk about his business here, unless he intends to pay advertising dollars to the site. If an E-mail contains questions about your order status, or some other such question, he is probably not responding because he has been told by the page owner that he isn't allowed to.

Thanks Typhoon, that makes a lot of sense, certainly explains why he does not respond to those types of questions while at the same time he responds to answering other questions that do help out people on this board.
2nd tread, also totally biased.
I just got off the phone with you know who at superchips, what a A hole! That company totally sux, I never ever do business with a company that acts that way, especially one that needs to exude confidence to it's customers. Clueless at best.
After that I spoke to Sal, wow completely different experience. <happy face here> I know the guy is hard to get a hold of but well worth the wait. Great guy, super great guy, even his wife tried to help me out. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for his products.
I must of asked 30 questions and my impression was that he was more excided answering them then I could ask them.
We are lucky to know this guy.

I ordered my PSP chip by phone on a Wed. night, had it at my door at 12:00 noon on Fri., had it in my truck at 6:00pm, had it at the track at 8:45, shaved just under a 1/2 second off mt E.T. Best $100(re-burn) spent on truck yet. I reccommend ordering by phone in the evening.
How do you reach Sal by Phone? I have thje Flows and an Airaid system and I am running 9psi and I am desperately wanting the best chip, and I hear that Sal is the man. please slip the # to me if it is not too much trouble. Also My father has a superchip that is not working to par and I was wondering if Sal can reburn this chip?

I dont know if I am allowed to post PSPs number but here it goes. 631-821-3622.I called about 6:30 or 7:00pm Texas time. I dont think SAl can reprogram a superchip, its a little different set up, he uses an e-prom. But he does now offer a 5 program chip and if I am not mistaken it is the same style as the superchip so maby he can. I know the superchip can be reprogrammed though but not sure who does it. Hope this can help you.
