Picked it up today & Got 2 kills
My last reply regarding this issue.
GOCART,
I just wonder if you throw your sprint car motor in your buick and drive it around the block for 3000 miles or so nice and easy. This way its ready for race day(flame intended
).Im so not worth it but I do make a good point and so does F1 car.You are using techniques from the ice age.You sound like one of those *****ty service directors. You know the kind who wont warrantee your truck because of aftermarket air filter.I see this thread going in the wrong direction.Im outta here.Just keep in mind gocart......Make sure you change the oil in your sprint car motored buick every 3000 miles or 3 months. If you live in dusty areas you might want to do it sooner. Also,Make sure you only use Ford oil.It might blow up if you dont.Or it might not brak in right?
.Oh yea,The little red face on this reply in the left top corner is you after you get beat by a fellow lightning owner who broke his lightning in using my technique!

Hey F1,
Just tell me LQ is a bit offbase with his "Technique"
My point was that his "Technique" should not be takin as a matter of fact. Some person who dosn't know any better might read it and think it's the right thing to do....
That is great F-1 piston technology you are refering to.....but do you really think they use those pistons in a L ? This is a Ford passenger car engine that is clearanced/designed to be drivin over 100k miles.
Although I am under 40(almost)here are some way "Over 40" guys I've worked with on motor development. (Since your a bike guy) Kenny Roberts Engine Man Bud Askland, Erv Kanemoto and Rob Muzzy.
And I must concour....nobody here (includeing myself) is as smart as they think.
LQ
Your imagination just runs on and on making up different scenerios. Screen writer??? Bad smoke???
Pound Sand......

As usual, the truth lies somewhere between the two extreme approaches listed in this thread. High power in the early stages of an engine's life is necessary to enable the engine to reach its potential. High heat, on the other hand, is to be avoided. The fact is, the procedure listed in the Lightning handbook is a good one. Be gentle on the engine for the early miles, vary the engine speeds for those same miles and don't overheat the engine. As the parts wear in, increase the load and RPM, don't lug the engine and, after the first oil change (I use 500 miles), drive it hard but don't abuse it. I don't consider WOT abusing the engine after the first oil change. This procedure is very similar to an aircraft engine break in procedure and no one wants an aircraft engine to quit! If you don't care about your truck, do what you want.
Of course, avoiding WOT on this truck is like trying to avoid breathing but the results are worth it!
