Post White L in Irvine? & Cervini's Hood

I noticed a white Lightning in Irvine, on Alton street last night. Anyone here?

Also I went to pick up my L with the new ram air hood. Bad news. Not ready yet. I already knew it wasn't a perfect fit. But now, this hood has craters all over it. It sure looked nice when it was white, but paint it black and all the inconsistencies show. I am a bit dissappointed, I expected better from them. Hopefully I will have it by tonight. Next week I'm gonna put some tight mesh screen over the intakes, wouldn't want anything getting in there and messing the belt set up.

Sorry to hear the problems with the hood, but as you know, that's black for ya. Please post pictures of it. I am leaning toward the AA cobra hood even though it is not functional like yours. I am assuming you will make it functional, be sure to post any improvements in your ETs, could be the straw that breaks the camel's back as far as which hood to get. Thanks, Jeff

Jeff,

I just got the truck back. It looks soooo mean, everyone was turning their heads, nobody wanted to mess with me, well, except a flourescent green import, but I silenced him quick. Lined up next to a new black Vette, he tested the waters a little, but didn't want to risk getting burned by a truck in front of a bunch of other cars.
The body shop guy did a great job, the black is a perfect match. It is functional in that it ducts air ONTO the engine, but it won't be fully functional until Cervini's releases the kit.
I have no idea if the extra air gets to the filter at all, but even if it did, the hood is like 3 times heavier than the stock one, if anything it actually slows me down. Now I appreciate how much better aluminum is! I could pick up the stock hood with one arm! I'm not sure if I'm just imagining, but it feels like the handling is a little worse, and the truck dips a little more when braking. Besides getting a shift kit I think I'm gonna look into relocating the battery to the back.

Thats amazing about the weight. The advertisement that I have says it only weighes 40lbs, does it weigh more than that? I can't imagine the stock hood weighing too much less than 40lbs.

Even the AAD hood is a bit heavier thn the stock one. Id say the stock hood from picking it up and haveing to move it to the back yard the the shed, it wieghs in about 15 pounds. The AAD on the other hand, just getting in the front door was a trick, mostly due to the pure size of the box.

The AAD hood can be made functional, the hood is hollow. You can punch out the blocks in the scoops, and build alittle box around the filter, and punch a hole the size of the box over the filter, on the under side of the hood..

I think you're right, the stock hood is about 15 lbs. It doesn't look like it, but it is extremely light, and I'm sure it helps balance out the front and rear. I gotta give it to Ford for that.

Thumbs up

Brimstone,
Overall you are happy w/ the quality of the cervini hood, right?? b/c I'm ordering the same ram air hood next week.
how hard was it to get the hood to fit right? does it already come primered??

it sucks that the ram air kit won't be out till another 6-8 months. the air should be directed to the filter. I'm not waiting on the kit to make mine functional, crash1 has come up w/ a way to do it.
were the ram air holes in the hood already open?? how long after ordering did you get the hood??

any pics??

ponysix8,

Yes, despite all my bitching, I am happy with the hood, it is a beautiful design. It was not hard to get the hood to fit right, just a little off in the corners. I will try to post pictures by next week.

Please keep me informed on how you plan to make it functional! Any diagrams? Yes the ram air holes are already open, they are pretty big holes too. It is pretty awesome because the engine and blower are even louder.

The hood arrived in less than five days, cost $100 just for shipping.
