Sorry to hear someone is having problems.....
And i know prayers are helpful....
But take this guy to the Hospital and get him worked on!!!!!!
I went through a similar thing with my dad....they couldn't figure out what was wrong with him.... everytime you have to make a new appointment a week apart at best. Finally I couldn't take all the medical industry red tape!!!! Took him to the Hospital and they ran a battery of tests on him and had him figured out in a couple of days. This process would have takin several months outside the hospital.
Please take him to the Hospital and don't leave till they find out what his problems are!!!! in another month he will be 100 pounds!!!! Don't wait!!!!!

Robert

Mike, I'm so sorry to hear about your condition- I'll be praying for both of you. In my experience, I've found that many doctors are idiots, and that sometimes they make things worse. The important part is to never give up and to try every damn treatment out there, no matter how weird it sounds. We're all thinking of you and hoping to see you racing around in your L real soon!

This is what I've said on other boards, hoping people will provide support on this. I want to thank you all for your prayers, support, and advice.

04:11 PM
I've taken him to the ER already. They made him wait for 6 hours there. By the time they came around and called his name, he had fasted for 6 hours and his blood sugar had stabilized enough where they checked him out, said he was ok, and sent him home. Apparently the people in the ER can't do anything.

04:29 PM
they've run blood tests and everything has come out fine. Stool samples and such have not been done yet. Mike begged the endocrinologist (and his PCP) to give him a GTT (glucose tolerance test) at least to rule OUT the fact that it is not LBS (low blood sugar) doing this to him. He is going to have his cortizone (sp?) levels checked soon, and the Dr wants him to see a nutritionist. Mike, his father, and I all agreed that he should be hospitalized for observation, and have tests run. They refuse to admit him! It's like I said before, I feel completely helpless... I'm doing all I CAN do for this..

05:32 PM
since the doctors will not give Mike a GTT, I bought a blood glucose monitor to take his blood sugar. we're going to do a 6 hr gtt here. first I'm going to call walgreens because I know you need a form of glucose to administer. This seems to be the only way to prove something to the doctors, and to at least rule out that LBS is not what's doing this. I'll let you all know what's going on.

06:44 PM
Mike has repeatedly asked the doctor(s) to run a GTT (glucose tolerance test) on him, and they've refused. The endocrinologist said it was "unnecessary," because there was "nothing wrong with his blood sugar." Some doctors are so !@#$#@! ignorant sometimes. If he has requested this numerous times and was refused, who/what will do it? How can it be done?
If all the options result in no help or feedback with these doctors, I was thinking of going through the Joslin center in Boston: http://www.joslin.org .

10:48 PM
he has "mild" anemia... thyroid, sugar, and kidneys are fine. I think that they need to test his adrenal glands. Tomorrow I'm going to be the Joan of Arc of medical malpractice... I'm going to call EVERYONE I can tomorrow. I know Mike should be admitted, he knows it, and his dad knows it. Why the f ck doesn't everyone else know it? The endocrine dr wants to test his cortisone levels in the morning, but how can we do that when he needs to sleep til 3 PM? They don't realize how hard it is. They think he just stays up late. "Oh you can get him up in the morning without any problems, I'm sure." I CAN'T. Not unless they want him to fall over! I'm so unbelievably angry and pissed off and upset and frustrated with these people! They're supposed to help improve the quality of your life, not let it go. Am I right on this? Correct me if I'm wrong, please . . .

10:57 PM
we've started testing his blood sugar a little while ago. So far here are the results:
8:10 PM 4/27/00 - ate 2 bites of pizza; about 1-2oz.
8:51 PM 4/27/00 - blood sugar- 85 mg/dL
10:05 PM 4/27/00 - blood sugar - 88 mg/dL
11:06 PM 4/27/00 - blood sugar - 79 mg/dL

I don't think it is an issue of the doctor's not knowing anything. It is an issue of the F(*#*king insurance companies refusing to pay for doctors performing work. The damn insurance world has put the squeeze on doctors and they are dictating them how to do their job. My boss went through this exact same crap recently after being diagnosed w/diabetes. He needed certain tests run, and the doctors absolutely refused to do it. Luckily his brother-in-law who happens to be a surgeon went in w/him and really put the squeeze on his doctor and then the tests were run. This may be what is going on here. What type of insurance does Mike have? If it is an HMO, then I'll bet that's what the deal is.

My thoughts and prayers have been w/the both of you all day. Get well Mike, hang in there.

Sexy, if the doctors up there won't do anything you might try coming to TX, there is a hosital in Galveston, The Shriners hospital, its free but i believe its for children. But they have top notch service and doctors there, you might try looking into getting Mike in there, if you plee your case they will most likely then not admit him, but the catch is that it is in TX. if you need more information I can help.

FYI...

The Shriners hospital here in Galveston is not for the problem(s) that Mike has. Shriners Hospital is for burn type patients. How do I know? It is across the street from where I work, University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

I'm sure it will be out of the question to bring Mike to Texas, however if you do I would suggest the Medical Center in Houston.

I could say, yeah I know somebody who had the same problem Mike has or whatever, but I will not. You can not compare illness.

God don't seem to like me much, but mebbe he might listen to me to help Mike.....
