What have you guys paid for ....

What would/have you paid for a programmer-Xcal2/Predator, cutom dyno tune, and 4lber installed and dyno tuned at a shop?

What would you guys expect to pay for all of this?

well,

you must have gotten a real good price.

SCT Tuner/ Predator 400 bucks
4lb lower with belt 250 bucks
1hr install labor 80 bucks
custom dyno tuning 400 bucks.

these are average prices i guess. That's about 1200 bucks.

SCT or Predators sell for about 400 bucks. Most tuners give you a couple tunes. Some charge. An average non caged pulley is about 250 bucks. Most shops get at least 70 bucks or more an hour, which is about what it takes to do a pulley swap (or at least what they charge). Must places get about 100 bucks to strap a truck to the dyno, plus charge for custom tuning.

I think 1200 bucks is about average and a decent price.

If you got all this done for 700 bucks, you got a F'n deal and a half.

$270 for used lower interchangeable pulley kit (4lb and 6lb)

You will also need to buy new plugs which will varie dending on each aplication.

I guess I got a deal... If my tuner tried to F'ck me for 400$ worth of dyno time for basic bolt ons after making a 150$ on a tuner they just sold me.... I'd have unstrapped my truck and slapped her.

On the pulley... I did forget the cost of the belt so I will give you the 250$... For 80$ for a 20 minute job I'd say do it yourself.

well

not everyone can do **** themselves.....so they have to pay.

Custom dyno tuning is a HUGE difference from a mail order basic tune for bolt on's.

The first time i went from a mail order tune, i gained 30 hp and 70 ft lbs. How many mods give you that kind of power for 400 bucks??? Keep slappin away I guess?

Very good point.

I want the most out of my tune while keeping it as safe as possibe. The only way to really see what a vehicle is doing is to have it dyno tuned. I think the extra $400 or so is well worth it in the long run.

You really think that in the days of the internet where you become a "Tuner" by registering an email address, building a website and buying some parts that there is $150 in profit in a an Xcal or Predator ?
I guess you also think the dyno is free as is the land its on, the time and know how to run it and interpret the data. Say nothing about the laptop to program your tuner and all the other tools. Like the old saying goes you get what you pay for - I would rather invest a little in my truck to save the $6k-$10k engine replacement...

Having said all that I have changed pulleys a few times on my old truck and would not take time off and pay to have a pulley changed by itself - to easy a job..

You can do better than $1200...

your talking $400 for the x-cal2/pred
$250 for the pulley
$80 for 1 hr labor
but $400 for a tune??
Here's what I paid for a tune

$75 for 3 runs (that's all it took)
$150 for the tuner
that's a grand total of $225 for a tune.
I would think a good tuner shouldn't need more than a few pulls to dial up a a simple 4lb lower tune.
So all in all I would say around $1K. Even cheaper if you get a lower pulley used and are able to install it yourself. I bought mine used for $150 (cage, pulley, belt)

No Doug, that is not what I am saying at all. I understand the economics and how the "system" works. I have no problem with someone making a profit and paying the rent. They just aren't going to make the entire months rent off of me.

There are good reputable folks out there and there are ones who will gouge you until you bleed. It makes no difference to me who you choose. I happen to work pretty hard for my money and choose not to just give it away without doing a little research first.

The tuner I used charges 65$ for 3 pulls and 400$ for the tuner. If you get the tuner from them the first tune is included. They don't charge extra for simple addons. I hope your not suggesting that because I didn't pay an exorbiant amount that somehow my tune is not as good or safe.

Alot of factors involved, but I paid:

$325 for the Predator
$150 for the 5lb lower and belt
$160 for the dyno tune (I am a repeat customer, included a $35 tip)
$100 for the dyno runs
$85 for the lower pulley install (1 hour labor rate)

Shop, Mustang Motorsports in Fort Myers, tuner Willie F direct from Diablo in Miami. The tune is very conservative stock shift points, 12.1 a/f, no change in timing.

D-Day

find an owner near you that has done the installs and pay him some cash to help you install. Flash up a generic tune for what u got then drive to a dynoshop and make some runs and adjust fuel/timing accordingly.
