How do Lightnings beat a cobra which is 1500lbs lighter?
To tell you the truth,I dont know they just do.
Wes Tarbox,Maybe it is the new england weather.I ran a 13.8 at 98mph stock with like 500 miles on it.I see cobras run all the time.cobras without the fix run 14.3-14.6.Every lightning up here in new england so far has run a 13.99 or better stock. It probally is the weather.I did not compare a fixed cobra to a stock lightning.Read it again,I said cobra with the fix and a lightning chipped and filtered.Fair is fair.
2 more weeks and i can go to the track and see what kind of times my truck can pull.I will post mine and all the cobras i see.

I am hoping to shave ET by two footing the launch, not by cutting reaction time. If I shallow stage then hold brake and run RPM to about 2000 I should get better times if I can get good hook up.

I am planning another trip to the track Fri to work the reaction times. I know my truck is ready willing and able, now I just need to get the driver up to speed.

Most of the crowd last Friday were underpowered foreign cars with stickers, spoilers and mufflers.

Lightningquick,

I agree that a chipped/filter'd L will outrun a '99 Cobra with the fix. Heck it will outrun my slightly modded '96 Cobra off the bottle (best is 13.34 @ 105.3).

I was only comparing stock to stock and at that I was using the '96-98 Cobra which is faster than a "non-fix" '99 Cobra. Stick cars take more finesse off the line, believe it or not. Anyway, we're in agreement on this one.

As far as the '99 "fixed" Cobras, I concur with LightningFreak that many are in the 275-280rwhp _max_, from what I've seen. And my '99 L puts out 362rwhp (granted, that's with the chip), but I'd say that's certainly over 400hp at the flywheel.

Doug,

Hopefully, I'll see you out there on Friday night! I'll be in my LX. Two-footing will help you improve your reaction time, for sure. However, I would caution against taching it to 2000 at the launch. I have had good success on stock tires revving it to 1100 or so and even then feathering the throttle til it hooks up 100%, then going WOT. Consistent 1.9x 60's on stock rubber.

I thought I saw a post here where a Lightning owner posted a dyno run and it made about 330 rwhp at 2500 rpm while the Cobra would only make about 150 rwhp. I race a really hot rice rocket this weekend and I could really pull him any place under 40 I mean JUMP, we also pulled a 60 run and he stayed right there, I could still pull him but it was more like a light jog; and yes at the first opportunity he disappeared into a parking lot. I've never considered rice a real kill, you never REALLY know with what you're dealing with until it's over!

Maybe a 94-98 GT

cobras without the fix run 14.3-14.6.
A stock 99 V-6 will run close to a 15 1/4, must be crappy drivers in those cobra's

I concur with LightningFreak that many are in the 275-280rwhp _max_
Yes that seems right. Ford advertised 320HP (that's at the flywheel)

I'm not flamming here guys. I'm sure my perspective on the lightnings, and how much bad *** HP they have would change if I got to ride in one.

hey fakefvc, even with the fix, it's been reported that the 99 cobra still isn,t producing the advertised 320 HP. it's also been discovered that most L's are producing closer to 400 or more HP at the crank. that's what explains why the L being so much heavier can out run the cobra.

doug, reaction time won't change your 1/4 at all. your E.T doesn't begin until you cross the start line. so if you run a 13.9 with a 1 sec reaction time you would runthe same even if you sat at the starting line for 5 seconds. just thought you might like to know.
