Wrecked the Lightning

I think this may be the end of my truck. I was comming around a corner and hit the gas slightly, but due to the amount of gravel the back end slid out a little, but it then felt like the throttle got stuck. Like the engine was stuck at WOT. So I tried to correct this but ended up swerving the other way and hitting a tree on the passenger side door. Thank God the passenger only has a fractured arm. The truck is in really rough shape.

The weird part is that right before we were leaving the pool hall, heading home, before the accident, I heard a noise from the engin compartment that I have never heard. I even pulled over and did a general inspection of the truck but didn't find anyhting.

The passenger door is shot, and not one body panel lines up correctly. On top of that the whole cab shifted over on the truck about 3 inches. I don't know for sure if it will be totalled but it will be very close.

As a final question I was curious if anybody else has ever felt the throttle stick?

Mike

could have been a lot worse, if you could see the passenger door. it is bent into the passenger seat.

I dont know if i will be able to part it out, because if its totalled i cant touch it, but we will see.

I don't know any of the particulars on your truck but about 4 or 5 years ago there was a few discussions about aftermarket floor mats sliding up and jamming the gas pedal. A few people almost wrecked trucks because of it.

I have a set of aftermarket mats...some how it had been lifted off the eyelet anchor and the throttle stuck.....Think I popped it into neutral and then shut it off....secured the mat and....all is well.

Other than floor mats, thier has bean a few cases where after market CAI were installed with the nuts or mounts in line with the throtle body catching it on or nrea WOT, just a thought.

I feel your pain brother, I lost mine back in November, but it was due to a drunk driver. Also, I don't know if this pertains to you but I remember someone talking about their after market TB sticking wide open. So if you had one that could be the case. Good luck with everything.

Bad luck on the L.
I have a set of the rubber Harley mats.
The first time I went to the strip in Houston, I absolutely planted the gas pedal as hard as possible and of I went.
At the top of the 1/4, all fine, won the race, very pleased, lifted off and kept going
While I spent about a second being surprised that I was still accelerating, the truck shifted into top because I hadn't turned the o/d off and still kept going
After some furious stamping on the pedals, the throttle came free of the rubber mat and I just made the turn off road although a bit quicker than anticipated.

Next run, the mat came out and was in the bed.

HAHA Ive noticed some of that before.

On another note it was one hell of a scary ride, and to all who have lost their trucks I now know how it feels. It sucks big time. I just keep looking on the positives that at least no one was killed.

I have CAI but not the throttle body so I dont know if that would contribute, I doubt it. But thanks for the thoughts on what could have caused the accident.

Just the prelimenary investigation has revealed $7200 in damage, today it is going up on a lift to check the frame and undercarriage, so then we will see how much the exact total is going to be.
