Update

I was informed today that the lightning had been totalled. I do not know how much I will be getting for it or anything, but I have to go later today and clear out all personal belongings. As for the work I had done, he said that if I hang on to the recipts I should be able to get reimbursed for most of it (anything that does not require a different insurance policy).

So I will no longer have a lightning, and I don't believe I will be getting one in the future.

Thanks for everything guys,

Mike

If you have some aftermarket parts on the truck, you may be well off to try to do a buy back on the truck after it is totaled and part it out.

The insurance company is going to refuse to give you more than market value for the truck. It won't matter how much you spent on after market parts. You are also going to have to act quick or the place that has the truck will be stripping valuable parts out of it just before the insurance company get's to it.

That's too bad it's totaled. Good luck with your future ride whatever it may be.

Here's a short story. 1998 impala ss. Stepdad let me take it on a date. Engine mount let go. The throttle goes to the floor the vac hose on the power booster lets go. I'm 17 yrs old and ****ting my pants. I turned the ign off and used the e brake to stop. Pretty scary. My stepdad(A$$hole) accuses me of hot rodding the car which I wasn't at the time. On my case for a week until he gets a recall from GM for bad motor mounts (eat that).

I'm glad everyone is safe. That's what matters in all this.

I do gotta say though that a real gear head would IMMEDIATELY reach for the key. I mean.. it's just basic science to turn off the power. Maybe it's just me.. I just don't get why people let a car keep accelerating then get scared fearing the worst is about to happen?

I liken it to a 6yr old on his/her bicycle headed for a mail box. If your brain is run by ignorance you lean backwards in the saddle, close your eyes, shake the handle bars, scream or yell out.. then crash into it. If your brain is run by experience (and science) you put your foot on the pedal and stop.. or you turn.. THEN you get scared at what *might* have happened.

I guess it depends on how you read it
I think he did good for a 17 year old in that situation...

Im sure if you part it out there will be a line of people waiting for parts. I personally would like to get my hands on your bumper if it is silver and in good shape, but with the use of these forrums i bet you can ups your truck to different places all over and make more money back then the insurance would ever give you.

I'm just poking fun. All of us have been on that "bicycle" before.

Sorry about the truck...

Had the floor mat happen to me in my mustang....

Its weird trying to figure out what is going on....why its going on....and how to correct it. I put the brake on for a second...got my bearings just killed the motor with the key. Thinking clearly in those situations is difficult and comes with experience.

Happened way too fast to do anything about it, including turning the ignition off. Just wasn't enough time. I slammed on the brakes cut the wheel, and got nothing.

As for the parts I already went to the body shop to tear out the parts and replace the stock parts on whatever I could.

im older than dirt anymore, and I am here to tell you that even though you are bummed out about the truck, it is the best thing in the world not to have killed or seriuosly hurt your passenger. trucks are replacable, hell I will sell you mine.

Sorry to hear they totalled the truck. I think sometimes it's better that way. Even if they can fix them they are never the same again.

Have any ideas on what you might get now?

Yea the body guy told me it would never be right. He said it would look fine, but down the road there probably would have been something wrong with it.

I have been thinking about a couple of things actually. I want to do plenty of test drives before I make my decision.

I was looking at a 2003 mustang cobra (probably most people's favorite on this site anyway ) A 2004 lincoln ls, and a 2004+ pontiac gto. The reason I like the gto is not for the look on the outside, but rather the amazing performance, and a nice interior.

I will test drive plenty of things, but let me know what you guys think.

Its really what you prefer. I am partial to the Cobras They are easy to mod just like the lightnings. As for the Lincolns I drive one everyday, they are pretty comfty and I really like the look of them, but that is just an opinion. Cant give any advise on GTO's since I havent driven/ridden in one yet but, the LS2 is a nice powerplant. Goodluck with whatever you get.

Good choices I think. I really like the Lincoln LS but I don't think there is much in the way for mods for that small V8, is there. Otherwise I think it looks like it would be a nice ride. I like the GTO too, for the same reason. It's not a looker but it's not a BS'er either. Mustang? No surprize that would be on your list coming from the Lightning.

I'm sure it sucks that the truck is done. I don't know about you, but I like looking at vehicles to purchase. Hope you have as much fun as I would.
