Question Bronze or Steel valve guides in heads?

What is everyone using in their aftermarket heads? Bronze or Steel valve guides. I have heard some bad things about bronze. Any truth to that? I am just trying to figure this out becuase the vendor I am buying my heads from gives the option of either bronze or steel.

I don't think the material maters as much as the quality of the hone work inside the guide. And if they are not honed to size, I wouldn't even bother with them.

Bronze guide SHOULD last longer and so should the valves since it is more of a self lubing[somewhat]as for steel you mean iron, they work too,the big thing to having a guide last is how they are sized for the valve and also the geometrity[sp] for the valve train.I know that part of it does not pertain to the OHC as much as the OHV stuff.sTan

I believe that the LFP heads are just Patriot heads.

HI!... Stay away from the cast iron valve guides on the modular 2 valve heads!!!!!!!! I ran into major problems with my FOX LAKE heads. The cast iron guide broke off and wrecked two of my pistons. Get the MANGANESE BRONZE guides. Also, if you have the heads ported or CNC ported like mine, install the valve guides later. My cast iron guides were CNC ported in the heads and this caused them to weaken, plus with the valve guid ported it is considerably shorter and does not keep the valve stable on big lift cams. Go here to read about my problems. It's towards the end.

I used silicone bronze valve guides in my first motor and understand they are an excellent choice for our application. (Not sure whats in the new motor ???)

HI!... I have had these heads for over 3 years now. Sat in their box for just over two. I ordered "03" heads, MANGANESE BRONZE guides, and FERREA S/S sodium filled valves. What I ended up getting from them was "99" used heads that were sandblasted, stock cast iron guides, and the cheapest FERREA valves they make and were not sodium filled. Let's just say, that's the last product I'll be buying from FOX LAKE.

So you only found this out after two years? Did you not check them when delivered or were you not able to tell until they broke? Mine will be here tomorrow.

HI!... I was not able to tell. Last time I trust a high performance company. Their screw up cost about $4000(CAN) to repair.

I guess my point is did you contact them after just installing them? You took enough pictures to chronicle the timeline of events and even though they sat for so long maybe they might have tried to help. It really sux that it happened.
