I now know why I don't quite fit in with you guys...
I bought this car, as is, off the showroom floor in January of 1999. It's a great car to drive (gets 34 miles to the gallon). I don't fool myself though (no stickers saying VTEC). It's a Civic, not a sports car. It may be a ricer...but at least it's not obnoxious.

I think everyone here agrees that most "imports" are good cars for what they are, econo cars.I also think we all agree that the 4 inch tip havin',sticker wearin',tinted out window, numbers on the side,3 inch dropped, 4 bangin',huge fin higher than the roof, hatch full of subs and a kid behind the wheel w/ his hat on side ways, pants hangin' to his knees is too funny, too annoying and too stupid not to poke fun at Right? Right. That being said I think we also know that they're are "imports" that will hand us our collective L heads on the proverbial plater(maybe not Wyldmans
),BUT those guys don't often "punk" out their cars. They have to much pride.Seriously how many times have you seen a Supra TT w/ a coffee can? Or an NSX w/ neon or a huge number on the side?

I have to admit this is some funny stuff to me. I enjoy romping on those little dressed up eclipses and honda civics with just my little 4.6L V8 F150 (sure wish it was a Lightning though) and really dusting them with the SVT COBRA, but at the same time, there is some of them that I respect. I remember seeing an article in a magazine a few years ago where the fastest 4 cyl. was here in my hometown of Jacksonville FL. It was a sub 10 second honda civic. True he had enough money invested in it to have bought a Lightning.
Even though It's seems stupid to me, we should respect their right to do it. I guarantee you that there are as many (or more) people out there that say the same thing about most of the members of this site. Things like, "If you wanted a sports car, you should have bought one" or "It's stupid to put that much money into a truck, it's just for hauling stuff...." etc.
Something you may not realize is that a lot of these rice boy concepts have come from racing. Not as we think of it here in the states, but Ralley type racing which is very popular in Europe. Things like the different size and offset stripes over the top of a vehicle and off to one side.
Anyway, though I personally don't like them, is there really that much difference between someone who lowers a civic, puts racing stripes and performance stickers all over it and makes performance mods to it and a person who buys a truck, jacks it up, bolts evey kind of bushguard and crome accessory to it and 20 million candlepower worth of lights and never goes offroad. I don't think so, but that is one of the things that makes america great. Freedom of choice.
This is not meant to offend anyone, just trying to promote a little tollerance. Personally it is usually the attitude of the poeple who own some of these cars that make me dislike them more than the cars themselves. Many of them don't respect the other drivers on the road and that is what pisses me off. I would much rather see someone in one of these little rice boy cars that is driving safely and courteously than someone in a plain, daily driver honda, that is constantly cutting people of in traffic and and driving stupidly.
Just my opinion!!

Bill....
Yup they actually do take a lot of pride in what they do. I have several friends that work in that factory building Windstars and the F-trucks. My good friend, the one who gave me access to the storage/shipping yard is just a prime example of that. He could have easily said forget it, but was kind enough to let me have a peek/pictures at the 2000's! The biggest strike against the Canadian Auto Workers are from the cars built in Quebec....F-Bodies (Camaro, Firebird, Trans Am). I know, because one of my relatives is a supplier to GM and he tells me the constant horror stories there. It's a combination of a disgruntled labour force and sub-par quality. I also know for a fact that both F-bodies (95 & 98) that I owned were both garbage. They may be fast but they are built like a pretzel. I have worked on too many of them to count and I constantly see the same problems, over and over. Don't get me wrong, I love the cars and many of my good friends have them. I just have a real beef with the quality of them. After driving my truck around for 7 months now, I am really realizing what a quality piece of machinery it truely is.
But...alas....out of the fruits, there is always a lemon somewhere and I'm sure someone out there has a bad Lightning. It happens....unfortunately.

Got to love us Frost Bitten Canadian Boys. Let's see now, Honda Civics, Ford Lightnings, Chevrolet Camaros, Pontiac Firebirds...hmmmm?!? Do I see some sort of pattern here?
Well, yes. Except for the Honda.

Chris Thomas-
I am going to have to agree with you on this statement made by you "Personally it is usually the attitude of the poeple who own some of these cars that make me dislike them more than the cars themselves. Many of them don't respect the other drivers on the road and that is what pisses me off."
But, I also have to admit that was a funny web site! I guess what it all comes down to is - " TO EACH HIS OWN"

I agree with Chris and PoorBoy:
I have always been a "whatever floats your boat" person as to what one chooses as his/her signature transportation.
I have four employees who drive rice rockets, and although they toe the line in my store, I see them on the local roads with the sideways baseball caps intimidating people with their antics and it irritates me too.
But, and this is sort of important, those same boys can buy a very quick in stock form rice rocket, dump $500 in go fast parts in them and have a pretty high performance car or truck for $8 to $10K. That was something not available to a lot of us 10 20 or 30 years ago. As well, these things go fast, corner very well, stop quick and straight and deliver great fuel mileage. Not so the straight line monsters I played with 30 years ago. Go fast very straight and hope no corners come up and no one got in my way.
As a side note, I still own my '69 BelAir ex cop car with a 390++ horsepower 427/Th400 that looks like a broken down taxi. Headliner is hanging down, bunch of dents, pitted chrome etc. It's real tired now, but up until 3 years ago, I used to hunt down rice rocket boys with that car and had a ball.

Well, as you can see from my signature, you people can see which side of the fence I line up on. I haved owned many different cars and trucks in my life, American, German, and Japanese, and the Civic is without a doubt the best all around vehicle I have ever owned. For a $12,000 car the fit and finish is excellent and the reliability is superb. Except for the clutch it is bone stock, but I have seen 125mph on the speedo, and I tried out my new G-tech on it yesterday and got 0-60 times in the low 7's. Haven't tried the 1/4 yet, but dollars to donuts it will turn mid 15's. Not bad for a car that gets 35mpg and can haul my wife and two big dogs, or a full size Weber BBQ. Not only that, it was made in Canada. Where were your lightnings made? You say, c'mon, if you want an econobox buy a Ford Focus. Sure, made in Hermosillo, Mexico. I'd rather buy a ricer made by Americans than a Ford made by Mexicans. If I go ahead as planned and install a Jackson Racing's Eaton supercharger it will be about a quick as a stock L., handle better, and be faster on top, due to much lower CD, all for less than half of what I am paying for my L. It will not have any graphics or silly coffee cans, etc., on it. I love driving stock looking "stealth" vehicles that surprise the hell out of someone who wants to choose me. This is not to disparage the L. I can hardly wait to get my hands on mine, and I know I will love it. Besides, my Civic will not tow my boat. So, I say, buy American, unless, of course, your vehicle of choice happens to be built in Canada, in which case I say, enjoy it and be a little tolerant of those whose taste in vehicles doesn't exactly match yours (unless it has a bow tie on it, of course).

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
'92 Civic Si, Centerforce Dualfriction clutch, no front license plate.
'84 Alan Record Carbonio, Aerospoke wheels, Sugino AT crankset, Campy brakes (I think, hard to tell underneath the protective coat of grease and dirt).
'98 Honda "Harmony" 5.0 h.p. mulching mower, stock.
2000 silver SVT Lightning on order (the lawnmower will have to go).
