Help.....Tranny fluid?

I installed a JLP valve body yesterday.

Ford manual says 16.4 quarts for our tranny with a 4x4 pan (which I also added).

I put in 12 quarts and she is topped off to the "do not fill" section of the dipstick - in fact the entire dipstick area is covered.

Does anyone know how much should be in there?

Should I drain some fluid?

Thanks

It's 16 qts. including the torque converter. If you didn't drain the converter it should only take 7-8 qts to refill it. You'll need to drain quite a bit if you put 12 qts in it.

You do need to drain some out. The deep pan only takes 7 to 8 quarts after you service it.

Clue 1: "I installed a JLP valve body yesterday"

Clue 2: ". . . a 4x4 pan (which I also added)."

Clue 3: He didn't drive home with no fluid in the tranny and it would be stupid to pay for fluid twice in one day.

You gotta admit when the opportunity arises the fellowship is comical

I don't remember f150online being sooooo much fun............ then again I could have remembered the first time I installed the Greg Evans it was only 7-8 quarts. :o

Brother, yes I did install myself - it is a breeze.

Jack the L up on four stands.
Pierce the stock pan for easy drain.
Remove pan, filter and stock valve body.
Install new valve body, new filter.
Clean up, marry gasket with new 4x4 pan attach
Fill with 7-8 quarts.
Turn over engine and slowly move your gear shift through each gear (standing still, not moving)

Take if for a test drive and feel the shift at WOT

Awesome for $160 dollars!!!!!

Some like to say they did it when someone esle has done it for them.
I see it time and time again when someone would mention they just put something in when they meant to say someone else put it in for them.

Sorry my mistake, that is why I ask. Now I can say to Dan Don't forget to read directions. Glad you got things working Dan, I'll need a ride in that beast since I am having withdraws.

My L would bore you compared to your KB and now to become a turbo L crazy beast!

I think I am done for now with the L. Now I need to concentrate on the stroker 347 in the fastback '66.
