Exclamation funny howling sound, please help.

Alright well i was backing into a parking space the other day and as i was parking i noticed a rather loud howling sound coming from my truck. it happens in all of the gears except for neutral and park. i can't really tell where it's coming from either. it's not a constant tone howling, the tone seems to shift high and low consistently somewhat like something revolving. Help.

Does it seem to drive and shift ok? is it while moving and sitting still? like a dry pump, or rubbing, could be so many things w/o hearing it.

Check the tranny fluid level? I've also seen a air intake valve make this noise on many a modular ford.

it could be your clutch fan, they sometimes howl.

Does it only do it when the truck is hot??

Do you have a Cold air induction? When I first put on my JL Ram air that I had, it made that noise. It went away when I took it off. Also, QKSILVR (a member in the board) had the same problem when putting a cold air induction. Then it got real bad. He thought it was the IAC so he took it to the dealer and it was a bad IAC.

Rear end sound

I may be able to point you in the correct direction.. I have a 2004 F150, Super Crew, 2WD, auto, tow package, 3.55 limited slip rear end. I had the clutch pack replaced at 14,000 miles for vibrations during accleration and was more noticable pulling a heavy trailer.

Once the clutch pack was replaced, I had a sound that occured at low speed forward and reverse directions. More proominently noted during either a left or right turn when beginning from a stop.

Returning to the dealer replaced the fluid with an upgrade anti friction lube in the rear end. That took care of it AFTER the new clutch pack. (Dealer noted that they had three returns for clutch packs in same two weeks for same type noise).

Best way to describe the sound in a low pitch whooomp whooomp sound that changed frequency with tire rotation until the speed increase and it the noise ceased.

The anti friction lube is not cheap, fortunate for the warranty!
