Guys with Radar Detectors...

I saw a setup that was supposedly coming out about a year ago from Valentine One. It was for BMW's and Porsche's, with the detection arrows located in the rear-view mirror. Any one have anything similar, or everyone pretty much using the standard setup with the detector unit suctioned to the windshield?

I checked Valentine's website and didn't see anything, anyone know of detectors with a similar "stealth" setup? I would like to get a detector but I don't like the idea of having it out in sight.

you could always rig up some chaf (particulate metal countermeasures) in conjunction with the signal strength of your favorite detector.

Be careful entering a Lowe's parking lot though.

Love the chaf idea!

You do know that Valentine makes a remote face plate that attaches to your power plug so that the arrow function lights up down there instead of on your detector.

Yes, but that is a little tacky to me, I'm looking for something more discrete...Like what I saw with the detection arrows lighting up in the rear-view mirror. It seems there would be something like that out there...

I wired mine between the headliner and the rear view mirror, and its hardwired so I never have to turn it on or off, it turns on and off with the truck. I think it looks pretty decent there.

did you get power from the compass in the ceiling or did you run power from somewhere else? I tried to find it up there and was unable. thanks

I've had an Escort Solo for quite a while and really love it. Cordless, battery powered and you can put it very close to your mirror or the dash (less desirable since it won't see to the rear as well) and about $325.
Haven't scored a ticket since I bought it 2 years ago.

I got power from the wiring that is used for the compass and temp and whatnot, it was a white wire if I remember correctly, I just spliced it. I ordered a special $10 wiring setup so I didn't have to hack up the stock wiring, it was on passports website, it worked perfectly.

That was a project that a guy on the M3 forums did because he lived in a place that radar detectors were illegal. There is a link on F150 to it from the lightning section SOMEWHERE. Try a search for M3 and Valentine 1. He actually took the V1 apart and cut the mirror to make the display show up.

I just bought a used jag that the previous owner has a K-40 with the front and rear laser difusers installed. It is all bui9lt in and it has red laser lights that flash in the instrument panel, left side for in front and right for the rear. It's pretty neat, although in my opinion, it is overpriced and does not work as well as my valentine.

What would be really cool is if Valentine or Escort, etc., would design a detector INSIDE a rear view mirror. That would be the ultimate stealth setup!

You should patent that idea

I've had mine hanging from the headliner in several different vehicles for a number of years now. Just cut or Velcro the detector back from the windshield. Power comes from the interior lights on the switch side used for map lights.

My V1 is mounted to the w/s right at the bottom border of the stock tint line just to the left of the mirror. The suction-cup bracket is in the tint. It is invisable from the front and the rear. I hard-wired mine to a 12v source(?) in the rt. kick panel.
