Well a T1 is not the fastest means of internet communications. I work for the FAA
and we upgrade from T1 to T4. Now I can download a 30 MB file in a matter of seconds.
The transfer rate for average T1 is 1.544 MB
and T4 is 5.23 MB a second. I have a cable modem at home but do most of my downloads at work on the T4. I have to say I would never ever own a telephone modem. I'm on the computer and internet about 12 hrs a day and
could not put up with the delays.

have cable modem at house....ran several tests and worst was 95.1 Kbps,11.7 KBytes/sec
and the best was 1457.1 Kbps, 178.6KBytes/sec
will try this this test during off peak hours
also read in a mag somewhere that tests were done by some company and they found that T-1's were the fastest setups....

The thing that makes this site so slow is the banners from burst.net (the clickable ones at the top of the screen). I combatted this by using lynx (unix text browser) and have no problems at all. Loads very fast with my slow 26400 connection..

Got ADSL here. Cable modems are not available in my area, but even if they were, I'm concerned about security and flooding, so I'd still go with ADSL.
I'm running at 768 Kbps. Sometimes, get to use a system on a wireless modem running at 2 megs. I really don't see much difference because of bottlenecks and slow servers all around the creation.
Even when on a dialup modem at 40Kbps max, never had to wait very long (at most 4 or 5 seconds for a page on this message board to load).
My guess is, some people are in high traffic areas and their service provider is probably out of bandwidth.
