Thumbs down Slower Than a 454 SS

Is it just my (new) computer or is this board sometimes slower to load than a Chevy big block?

This evening for instance. I can click on "next newest topic", then go into the kitchen, pop a top on a cold one, check out 20/20 on the T.V., wander back into my office, stare at the motorcycle paintings on the wall, and the new page still has not loaded.

On nights like tonight, I think that "F-150 Online" is the slowest F-150 in town.

Yeah, you engineering types always have the neatest toys.

You know, it's a little strange. I have no probs on any other site. And, right now, all pages on this site are loading just fine at a 45,333 bps connection. Last night, I was connected at around 47,000 bps and it was slow as 90 wt. on a winter day. Go figure!

Have same problem:
I have been told that part of the problem is loading the "active" advertising headers. That is the ones that move etc.
As Steve needs the revenue, I will live with that.
I have upgraded my browser, my modem and I have a Pentium II 166 mhz tower and nothing helps. Of course, I still can only connect at 26400 BPS even with a 56K modem. Modem folk say it is my lousy phone line.
The new cable stuff and better phone lines are some time away, as we live a bit out in the countryside.

It's still the best site going.

Dear Bill Murray,

You'll love this!

I talked to Steve specifically about the load times of the message boards, and he tells me that the banner ads are not slowing the message boards down, it's just the sheer size of the message boards these days, along with whatever load is on the Internet at that particular time. I had the crazy idea of us replacing whatever income he might be getting from them, and thus speeding up the message boards. Steve took the time to explain how wrong I was, and how my idea just wouldn't fly in the real world.

What I have noticed is that if you use modem-teaming software like I do, and use a pair of V.90 modems, to get 112K throughput, then the banner ads load first, but that is because of my modem teaming software. If I turn that off, and just use the one modem, then the message board text loads before the banner ads, so Steve is right on the money, the banner ads are *not* slowing down the loading of the text portion of the message boards. Wierd how it all works, ain't it?!?

The board loads first for me, then the banners.
Only on the slowest moments can I tell though. Everything "flashes" up.
I have 1.5 M max down load cable modem.
Down load from AOL usually is the slowest by far, make sense, still I don't know why.
The cable modem is by far, my favorite utlity each month.

Geee I thought I had an old system. 200mz. here. I replaced everything except the motherboard. 56k modem too. The board loads just fine for me 95% of the time. I really think any problems are the "traffic" volume and/or the phone lines.

This is really wierd in a way.

We are all Superchipping, Gibson cat-backing and Airraiding our computers to make them go faster exactly as we are doing our trucks.
Must be some sort of virus that is present in Ford interiors or some such

Yeah, you're probably right. It's a sickness. Doesn't seem to make much difference if it's computers, trucks, guns, motorcycles, RC models or cell phones. There's just something about POWER.

Hey....my 454SS wasn't that slow...I had a Paxton on it!!!! But it wasn't as fast as my Lightning!

Actually, I find this board to be excellent! Try LS1.com....now that is one slow board! Thnk goodness that I won't have to visit it anymore!!!

Unhappy

SilverBullet etc.

You have ruined my day totally:
I did the test, and got 15.x kbps, which is off the scale on the wrong end.
I really have to do some serious investigation as to why all this money I have invested in "stuff" is not getting me anywhere.
Superchip works, though.
