The wrecked red truck is sitting at the Ford dealer so I can only post the VIN and data from the window sticker. Vin 2FTZF0731XCA73189. The date on the lower right hand corner is 04-23-99. The Last Three numbers in the string just before the date is
801. I bet that is the build number. Looking back at the previous post and those figures handed out by SVT. I picked this truck up about the 15th of May in Mobile Alabama.I had originally put up $500. deposit on a black one that wasn't due in till the middle of June. Weird now I will own a Black one. Deja Vu.Hey I think I have My vanity plate.......Vuja De...????

It Knocked ever so slightly. I refer to the sound as sorta like a diesel motor sound.
It did bounce off the convertor or the limiter. I'm not certain. I could nail it at part throttle and when it hit third it would lock or unlock the converter of bounce off the limiter. I know this is muddled. he factory soft tonneau around the rear edges curls up and looks awful. The exhaust tips did get sooty looking , like it was runnin' rich.Boost wold hit 9.5 pounds. I loved that Truck.I here you can get the trim parts already painted from Ford. It had to be washed almost every other day. Damn! thinking back I had to adjust the passenger door trim insert around the pull handle. It was bunched up for some reason. The blow dryer had to come out to heat up and remove the dealer Name they glued on. It had all of 4 miles on it when I drove away. I made damn sure they didn`t put the ugly plate bracket on the front bumper. It had the Now famous cowling screw covers.

Sides these and the fact it is wrecked ,NO Complaints. I'm getting the black one Thursday and will add the VIN and dates here.

OK...Called SVT today 8-4-99. Truck was made on 4-30-99 Build #812. So the numbers pulled from the window sticker were close, but No cigar.

Checked out the truck closely this morning. Door pillar says 5/99. Tag on driver's side head cover indicates 4-29-99. No covers on cowl screws, making 9.5 - 10 lbs boost indicated now (w/o chip, waiting to install until my G-tech/pro gets here so I can have a true baseline to work with.)

So far I can detect no piston slap and the only surging I can detect is the flat spots in the shift, particularly at low rpm. Truly hope that the shifts will improve as indicated by others on the board. I do have some clunking in the front end when I hit the locks on the right side, but that is being looked into this weekend.

More info coming as it becomes available.

Okay folks, here we go:

VIN#: A70545
Cowl Screw Covers
Door seal tag: 03/99
Valve cover: 02/10/99
Comp Code: CUX1 (as they all do I told)
Current miles: 2180

*** SVT Build Number: 0056 ***

I guess that helps explain why mine had 75 miles on it at delivery. I was real upset about that but the dealer insisted that it was delivered to them with that may miles. This of course helps to confirm the other data I read (thanks also to F150SVT from his original message I read when I fist discovered F150online back in May). I don't here any piston slap, just those big loud injectors slapping open and closed.

Best et: 14.366 @ 96.62mph
Best mph: 14.547 @ 97.16mph
Both runs are at 1200ft

Problems:
1. Loose drivers seat mounting screws that made a clunk when I either accelerated or braked hard. Easy fix myself.

2. Scratches around the perimeter of the windshield - not on the surface but on the laminate. Have not had it in to replace yet.

3. There is a cone shaped plastic piece (maybe it's a water/dirt deflector) that covers the steering gearbox and is free to roam up and down the steering shaft. I first noticed it because it left a melted plastic mark on the exhaust manifold. There is a round tab on the big end of the cone that snaps over one of the power steering lines. Easy fix myself.

4. The lower rubber splashguards for both the radiator and intercooler radiator were misrouted and there ends not snapped into place. Obvious easy fix myself.

My lightning was built on 4-15 and was the #320 off the line. I have the covers on the cowling and have heard a tapping in engine department, but dont know what it is.

Lightning Bob,

I like your "philosophy". 100 really comes up quick on our trucks, doesn't it? Seems like every time I pick up "passing gear" on the interstate in order to "safely pass another motorist", the century mark is exceeded on my speedo. Gonna have to really watch it.

Red face

Heard my first piston slap this morning on the way home from work. Occured @ about 3250 RPM in 2nd gear just as engine was peaking before the shift. Dropped out of O.D. and back down to 2nd and repeated...same result. After engine was fully warmed up could not repeat results. Have screw covers on the cowling.

Hey 4D THNDR, Sal here. Did you start driving right after start up with the truck cold? The piston slap issue doesn't really have to do with noise heard during driving, only cold idle.Unless you just started it up and took off while it was slapping, if you are hearing a noise while driving, you might want to get that checked out.

Condition of the engine was "warm"...probably a 1/4 way up the scale. Knock, rattle, or whatever could not be duplicated when engine achieved "normal" operating temp. Indicates to me that all metal parts hadn't expanded yet. Rods and Mains get noisier as oil thins with temp...hopefully.

The best explaination for the piston slap issue I could manage to get out of the engineers, is that one (or more) of the piston/wrist pin assemblies is not assembled correctly, causing the piston to "****" twice per revolution and create the slap noise until after warm up. Ford also claims the Lightning motor should not be affected, but we know better I have been assured that it is not damaging, just an annoying noise. Ford will replace the motor for this concern. I have already been given the OK to put another motor in my 99 at work, but I haven't decided if I really want to or not. Maybe I'll leave the motor in and see if it gets worse, then replace the motor.

Thnx for the info...I'll keep an ear on it...don't think its serious either. Heard "serious" in a GMC (95% Cheby) on one I owned in the mid-70's...spun a bearing while driving down the road @ 60MPH...guess I had pushed it to hard. Tried to limp it home...kept slowing til you heard that big Rochester opening @ 50 MPH then the rod fell out the bottom...piece of sh*t, last GM product I ever owned.
