where do I find out the birth date of my Lightning? My cowling has covers over the screw holes but seems to run like a scalled cat. No piston slap when first started.

Three dates I know of:
Drivers side door sticker.
Left valve cover.
And on the computer I think I saw a date on it.

What were the dates on the door,valve cover and the computer from your truck?

Dates on my pickup were as follows. Date on the door was 4-99. date on valve covers was 2-17-99. Havent taken computer out yet.

For the record, my numbers are as follows:

door panel: 6/99
valve cover: 6/1/99
computer: not checked

In addition, look at the very last entry on your window sticker, at the bottom of the page and to the right. You will find a series of numbers. Look at the last 6 numbers in this line. Mine reads: "06 02 99". I'm guessing that this is the date the truck was shipped. This assumption jives with the above build dates and with the fact that I picked it up at the dealer on 7/3 (and it had been there for a couple of days or so due to my out of town trip).

Call 1-800-FORDSVT with your VIN # in hand and they will tell you the build date,what number your truck is,etc.

Calling SVT will work for early build dates but not for the later dates - at least not for a while.

I just called them and they have not yet received the download from the factory for build dates for my VIN. My truck was built in early June (last alpha character in VIN is a "B"). The SVT guy said, "Call back in a month and we should have it."

My truck has the surging problem, the clunk noise in the suspension (pulls to the right some) and some piston slap(ever so slightly). Idler pulley on passenger side is totally polished and driver side pulley well on its way. At first it was making around 8 psi. of boost but now it's around 8.5 - 9 psi. at 5000rpm and 80mph. It has just under 1800 miles and a slight rough idle that wasn't there at first. The exhaust is a bit on the black side, are you guys seeing this as well. My fuel mileage has ranged from 9.2mpg - 12.5 mpg(once) being the best, mostly around mid to high 10's. I don't have the screw hole covers on the cowling.

SVT54SC, I picked the Lightning up on 6/18. It will be interesting to find out what our build numbers are. They shoul be close. I think I'll call SVT and see what my build number is. I'm suppose to get the superchip today and tomorrow go to the track. See ya Jeff
