First Impressions my "99.5"
Hey folks,
Glad to know we have fellow riders as well as Ford truck drivers. I ride '98 H-D FLHTC (dresser) and '97 Buell S-1 Lightning....Buell also knows how to name their bikes! Ha! For playing around when it's not so hot and dusty outside, there is the '99 KTM 250 EXC. Let me know of your other rides.
Take Care,
Collin

Let's get off of bikes! (my wife won't let me have one any more - even the Lightning was a tough sell).
Bomeyer:
Regarding locking lug nuts; you need to follow the 'Lightning Rims' thread under 'Wheels & Tires' under 'Aftermarket'. You may have to adjust the topics seek to 60 days or more.
rmarietta:
Thanks for the tip on the key hiding procedure! I'll do it.
ccla:
I think it was Jimmy the Greek.
KeithN:
Thanks for the tip on the left front clunk. Dealer didn't find it at the first service/repair. I'll have them check it again Wednesday when they install the new cat(s).

DHFerguson:
Please remember to let me/us know if the cat replacement gets rid of the exhaust leak noise.
Funny, your comment about the bikes. I was about to say GEEZ, I wish I hadn't sold my Harley Sportster and my Honda V-4 Sabre ten years ago, cause I can't play on the F-150 site anymore.
Actually, it's good to hear that there are guys out there 20 or so years my junior who still have the hand/eye coordination to ride really fast bikes. I got front doored twice in Connecticut by really nice older ladies and gave it up. Laying down even a Sportster is real hard on the legs.

Bone Stock for now.
Stay tuned.
The Valkyrie barely fits into the bed headon. Be very careful about the tailgate. Mine now has a permanent dip on the inside panel because of the loading weight. I would suggest using a half inch piece of plywood to distribute the weight over a larger area when loading.
I have a 1993 Honda CBR 600 F2. It hasn't seen much ride time since I got the truck tricked.

Hey fellas,
I too now have the suspension pop in the front left suspension when turning to the right. Did anyone else ever have this problem besides DHFerguson? I wonder if the steering linkage is in a strain from having to turn 10 inch wide tires. Even with power steering, the Lightning is MUCH harder to steer than my Expedition, understandably....with the meats that are on there. However, shouldn't SVT have discovered this problem in the development stage? Oh well, let me know if your service dept. has looked at this problem and what they said.
Thanks,
Collin

Bill Murray:
I FINALLY got mine back from the Dealer. They put on the new left cat, but it didn't solve the problem. The next day they talked with Ford Service and SVT to no avail. Finally, the tech decided to replace the exhaust manifold gaskets (both sides). He said he found 'machining flash' on the gasket surfaces on the left side. It is now quiet (as a Lightning can be) and seems to run much better.
Collin:
I had the Dealer look at my 'clunk'. I told him about someone else here (F150online) having a loose fastener tightened. They didn't tell me what they found, but it hasn't 'clunked' since.
RE: Piston slap:
Look at www.blueovalnews.com for new information. I havn't heard anything from mine yet, but I understand you have to wait until the engine 'loosens up' before you know if there is a problem with your 5.4 pistons.

Took mine in to the dealer last week to have the oil changed and search for the "clunk" undr the left front. The dealer said that the long bolt holding the A-frame onto the frame was not tightened to factory specs and was allowing enough movement to cause the noise previously mentioned. He said that he could actually see where the A-frame bolt had been moving on the arm exterior. No more problems.

Hey guys, saw this posting on the Edmunds site. Seems like there may be hope for the piston slap
"This months issue(June Posting)of Truck Trend has a sidebar on the piston slap problem on page 92.
It says a technical service bulletin is coming out. According to TT, the good news is a fix has been found, and that it will affect several thousand owners of Triton engines, in all sizes including the V10.
The bad news is that the fix is major, not
everyone will be getting it, and it requires engine tear-down to replace the pistons with ones made from different materials, and different tolerances."
