DHFerguson,

Forgot....to get around the problem with the magnetic hide a key box, have a key made at your local hardware store and store that key in the magnetic box. Then hide the key with the chip in it in side the truck.

Bill Murray, What Ford dealer did you get your Lightning from? I live in Kennesaw and bought my 99 F150 at Cherokee Ford (not an SVT dealer) and I was considering going to Tidwell Ford for service (I live about 5 minutes from tidwell) when I need it. I won't be going there if they are who you got your Lighning from. Every time I go by Hobby Town on Barret, I look for that Lightning. Are you not there often or do you not drive it to the store?

I got my spare key at the dealer and it was only $20, and programmed it myself. Did you have both keys, or did you lose one?

DHFerguson:

You say that they decided that your left front catalytic converter was bad and a new one was ordered.

My Service Dept. says it it a converter noise, but not repairable. I am going to put mine on a rack Monday to thoroughly check the whole system, as I do not accept their explanation.

Please let me, and several others on various postings, know if replacing the converter gets rid of the noise.

Other news.

Talked with Mike Troyer for the first time yesterday (Superchip gentleman). What a pleasure, a really nice fellow and very open and obviously knowledgable. Also appears to be well connected to FMC. The interesting thing he mentioned is the variation in boost that Superchips is finding in standard production Lightnings. Don't want to misquote him, but I thought he was saying as much as 4-5 pounds variation, which could be as little as 3 pounds up to 8 pounds.

The chap that got his delivered about a week ahead of me also was without a boost gauge at delivery, and once it was repaired found he was getting max 4 pounds. This is apparently not a defect, per se, but a problem with the software programming of the engine management system if I understood Mike correctly.

This could be yet another reason that some of us are driving tire shredders and others not. While I for one am still totally awed by my trucks performance, I do still wonder if there ain't some more in there for free.

To close this one, I got pulled over on the way home from work by Cobb County's finest in a 99 Crown Vic. Turned out, he just wanted to look at the truck and talk fast trucks (This is totally illegal mind you).
Talked for 10 minutes and then had to go.
Did I do it? Bet your sweet *****.
I'll let him explain to his Watch Captain why he let a white pickup burn out right in front of him and didn't pull it over if some citizen called 911.

A happier day than most for this boy's playtoy.

got to see first hand the boost and timing retard and the soft shifting on my lightning today, as i came upon a worthy competetor in the right lane at a stop light. i reved my engine to start something, the other driver, my wife in our gs400, checked traffic and got the hole shot, although both vehicles are rated about the same in 0-60 & 1/4mi, the lexus would take a 2 car lead at the start, then we would be even , and at every gear shift she would surge forward past me, and believe me you cannot even feel the lexus shift, it is like an electric car, one speed from 0-150, someone mentioned that the lightning is cutting 4cyls at the shift, for tranny life, i am starting to believe him. still love the truck, but going to have to do something about the shifting.

Bill Murray, Have you considered Marietta Ford or Chuck Clancy Ford? (or whatever it's called now) I know they are an SVT dealer.

Hi BBQ & Darin

1. I knew I got the wrong car for Pat when I got the Continental. It's pretty quick, but not Lexus quick. As I didn't consider an import, I missed that one. Next time.
I keep having to remember we own the world's fastest production TRUCK, not vehicle.

2. I am aware, Darin of the other Ford dealers. It's just that Tidwell is a 2 minute walk from my shop back door. I'll give them another shot or so to see if we can get it straight.

Bill

Well, took the head of service at my dealer for a ride this morning to see if I could get the little clunk to happen in the left front, it happened ( he said thats no little clunk ) After a little messing around it seems to happen after I reverse then turn counter clockwise, go forward and take a right while slowing down, But the clunk doesnt happen all the time. Im going to drop it off tommorow night to have them look at it, I also mentioned about the piston slap and he said ford knows about it and they are working out a solution to either replace the pistons or do an engine swap. ewwwww, but mine only happens if its really cold, so im not to worried about that and everything else seems ok. Ill let everybody know thursday how it goes. Otherwise this truck is awsome. have about 1,300 miles so far

New Lightning owners:

Did your truck come with locking lug nuts, as listed in the Ford brochure and SVT website? Some guys have posted on ford-trucks.com that they aren't delivered with them. One guy said that matching locking lug nuts aren't even available to buy (?)!
If this is true, complain to SVT, Ford, and your dealer.

No locking lug nuts on mine. I thought I had read it somewhere, but never gave it a second thought. I'll have to inquire to my dealer about it.

Thanks for the reminder!!!!

I had a funny situation tonight. I was running my Lightning kind of hard then stayed steady at about 80mph for a while, then I stopped at a light. Started to take off and the torque converter would not catch until about 1300 rpms. I let off the gas and tried again, same thing. This happened again twice afterwards. After letting it sit for about an hour or so... it never did it again.
Anybody have any ideas?

Hello everyone! Well, after much waiting my black Lightning finially showed up the end of last week, I've been playing since then. I gotta say, so far I'm pretty impressed with this truck (except for the gas mileage, but hey, I could've bought an Escort, right?). The fit & finish seems really good, and so far I haven't experienced any of the problems that others have mentioned. My biggest complaint is that the sun visors are kinda cheesy, I believe I read that someone was thinking about replacing them with the XLT visors? This sounds like a good idea...if anyone actually tries it, I'd love to know the results.

The tint is scheduled for tomorrow, and I'm trying to decide between the A.R.E. and Snugtop hard covers, anybody had any experience with either of these? I'm also wondering if those bug deflectors really help...any input would be welcome!

Bo Meyer:

FYI, Tidwell has a black one sitting under the verandah that is apparently up for grabs. They have apparently had a couple of cancellations, but they sell in a day or two.

Just thought you would like to know
