Eaton Vs Magnum Dyno 6 29 05

Same Tuner + Dyno (Sal of PSP of course)
Same Pulleys, 9-7/8" Lower / 2.7" Upper

It was 77 Dyno Degrees out Tonight (Eaton Night)
It was 67 Dyno Degrees out Mag Night

It was 63% Humidity Tonight (Eaton Night)
It was 36% Humidity Mag Night

Eaton Results 441.9 HP / 573.2 ft lbs tq SAE
Magnum Results 442.6 HP / 573.2 ft lbs tq SAE

The VERY interesting results are this:

Eaton has more HP and TQ from idle all the way up to @ 4300 RPM

The Eaton and Mag are equal from @4300 RPM - 4700 RPM

From @4700 RPM - 5200 RPM the Mag has 25 HP more and 25 ft lbs of TQ

BUT the Eaton has as much as 20 / 20 more from 1000 RPM to @4250 RPM

Bottom line it's identical,
Pretty much an even trade off, and would prob net just about the identical ET's.
Do you want more from idle to 4300 RPM ???
Or do you want more from 4700 - 5200 ???
AND ABOUT THE SAME MORE IN BOTH CASES
(BTW, my shift points are 5000 RPM)

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH SAL,
(it's now 1:30 am and I just got home a few ago...)
I owe you Sal, YOU DA MAN!! (HUGE Thumbs Up)

THE RESULTS

The Eaton is seeing INSTANT 17lbs, and it'll climb to @19.
Of course a SPECIAL THANKS TO WES,
Awesome Port Bro, the workmanship was outstanding, and the results are right hear in Green and Green,
SIMPLY AMAZING.......
@ WES and the Wasp Gen2 (HUGE Thumbs Up)

NOW THE GOOD NEWS ; o )
We were able to go to 20 Degrees of Timing WITH NO 30HP LOSS like the Mag

We picked up good tq, and can someday tweak a stronger race program
(we were NOT able to do that with the Mag, we actually lost 30ft lbs of tq)

We were also able to build a much stronger N20 Program, 16-18 Degrees : o )
(The Eaton loves timing, the Mag does not)

Since the Mag did not, we had to go @ 12 Degrees for the n20 program and actually lost
@ 20-30HP. Another words the n20 Program I have "now" on the Eaton is stronger,
(@20-30 HP stronger) so the results will be better ; o )

Now I will have AN EASY 550/675 on the Spray using 100HP Jets (like before)
And if I dare to get ballzy again ( I WILL) with the 150 HP jets,
I'm right where I always wanted to be, @ 600/750... WOO HOO........

But DEF to be continued
Sal and I are talkikng Cams and Springs and we will eventually put the Mag back on,
but that wont be happing tommorrow.....

THANK YOU SAL
THANKS YOU WES
THANK YOU CHARLES and be patient, the Power is up Top, with the Cams and Springs
I got to believe it will out perform the Eaton, time will tell ???

Alarm going off in less than 3 hours : o () YIKES....

Ya, sell the magnum. stick to your ported eaton and just stick to NOS as your main power adder.

port that exhaust and intake and do what u need for cams /springs

Thanks All
(dam that was no sleep) @$^%@$*(%@$%@$$@

A few more interesting Factoids:

Making an Eaton Dyno pull on the original Mag program
"showed a much leaner A/F"
SO
It turns out the Eaton actually needs more fuel than the Mag,
(weird???)

On that run, we actually put down some much nicer #'s,
I believe it was 12HP more, and 588 ft lbs of tq (SAE #'s)
Once again proven we have tunability back, WOO HOO
And giving me options to NOW build a more aggressive race tune...

IAT were actually quite good for one hell of a screaming Eaton,
I believe Sal mentioned it went to 141 degrees, and said that was good
(dont quote me, but he checked them, and was impressed, whatever the # was)

YIKES LATE AS HELL FOR WORK.............

And some thought my results were crazy

The question in my mind is how does JDM get such good results out of the MP for their customers? What is the secret to unlocking the MP's power?

IT's the old BS advertising story.

Forsay, if the MAG made 12 hp more at the top of the RPM range then that's how MAG would sell their product... without showing the possible below the HP curve lose.

I ballyhooed about the old viper V10 engine vs the Lightning compassion of 360 vs 440, but the Lightning made 40 more than the viper for 80% of the time below the crossover and then for 20% the viper made 40 more, so the viper wins.... I think not!

Here we have basic proof that below the peak power has to be reexamined in the blower dept and on top of this we have what apears to be easier tuned engines (A/F) and timing.

thanks for the post. it raises some interesting questions on weather it is worth the price of the mp or to just stick with the port job.

How many #'s of boost was the MP seeing. I think all the JDM trucks use well over 20# of boost to get their results. Not something I would want to do.

I would imagine with cams and ported heads, shifting at 6-6500 RPM's would be where the MP really shines. Thing is, most of us don't go that radical. For a stock longblock, a ported Eaton, or better yet a KB for those with $$$ to spend.

For now, I'll stick with my Apten/Eaton and maybe one day get a KB.

I think robs magnum was seeing 22lbs if i remember reading correctly. Pretty interesting comparo, i wonder why the magnum had less tuning capabilities? Go figure. Pretty much made my mind up right there, unless replacing the springs really makes the MP work wonders. I know i'd like to have 573lbs of torque!!! I think the truck should go 11's off spray. Finally we have some back to back results to look at, at high boost, THANKS ROB!!
