Question Where to put sensor for engine temp.

Hello all heres what i did made a tee put the jdm efan sensor in 1 side of the tee put the gauge sensor in the other side of the tee.Tee is located in the back btm end of the block....Heres the problem fan is not cutting on sensor is not getting the right reading ,how do i know this took the tee out put the sensor to the fan back in the block drive it around sure enough the fan comes on put the tee set up back in never comes on even if its 97 degrees out side so where can i put the sensor for the gauge. The hottest the gauge has read is 180 degrees ...its not reading right either in the tee at 150 degrees on the gauge i check the fluid in the coolant tank sure enough the fluild is getting pumped so that means its over 180 degrees to open the termostat. So where do i need to put the sensor for the gauge?

Thanks for any help.Bob

I drilled and tapped my thermostat housing to install the coolant temp sensor.

like so...

The only drawback (if you consider it one) is the gauge won't read until the thermostat opens. Good way to see if the stat fails IMHO.

My gauge registers temperature as soon as the truck starts to warm up, don't have to wait for the thermostat to open.
