whats the payload capacity on an L?

Hello everyone. First off I must say what a cool site you guys have here. Anyway I have been thinking about getting a Lightning for some time now. I am glad that I ran across this forum, because the salesman I guess forgot to tell me about the spark plug issues

I am looking at either a 03 or 04 at this point.

I work for a aquarium design company in Los Angeles, therefor I will need to put about 100 to 500 lbs in the bed of my truck on a daily basis. I have always owned 4x4s, so I know very little about the sport truck market. a friend of mine who owns a SRT says I will not be able to put more then 100lbs in the bed due to shock and suspension issues.

Is there some truth to this? Its not like I will be racing with this weight in the back. Unless a honda or something gets testy.

1,350 lbs for 2003-2004 (reason they sit up higher)
800 lbs for 1999-2002

I haul an 800 lb motorcycle regularly. No trouble with the stock suspension.

BTW, the spark plug issues were resolved with the 03 head redesign.

Tuner Dude, don't be wary of the payload numbers and all that stuff. Lightnings have been used for utility WAY past their "suggested" payloads and towing capacities, and perform excellent in both cases. That's the beauty of the Lightning is that as cool a performance vehicle as it is, it's just as capable a utility vehicle. Good luck with finding yourself a nice truck!

Sal is correct. I have carried 1638 lbs of construction waste, 23 miles to the dump, with my 04 and 2" lowering shackles. And had zero issues on the way!

Where did you go Joe? I went to the Keene Rd landfill, and about destroyed my truck at that hell-hole.
