Wow Herb, looks like you had a late night, very cool. Did you get the timing chain squared away?

Thanks again for the meal, I don't have to eat for a couple of days now. You guys should have seen this spread, MY GOD. True Texas heaven on a plate. I am going to try to whip up my best attempt at matching your wife's killer potato salad this afternoon, MMM MMMMMM.

Thanks Rob !! It was good to see you again - sorry we couldn't get to your IC cleaning. I wrapped up about 12:30 last night.

Scott - great news on the plugs making a difference. All I really did was provide a place and some tools - You and Clay did all the work.

Yep - thanks Dale!

I was going to leave them in until I've got the solid lifters in my hands.

Herb,

how much progress was made today??

I think the fuel filter made a diff. After draining the other i tried to blow through it...no dice. I think I popped a vein.

Let me know what's going on next weekend.

Not much visually, but a good bit actually. I pulled the front suspension and steering system out and started removing the undercoating. What a fricken nightmare!! The best solvent I've found for is straight gasoline. So for most of today I've been on my back or squatting in the wheelwells with a scotchbrite pad or a toothbrush, scrubbing the frame and finding EVERY weld burr possible with my fingertips. I've got the outside of both rails done, including the upper control arm mount boxes and spring perches/shock mounts, the front and bottom of the main cross member, the inside of the lower control arm mount boxes and small portions of the inside of the frame rails. Did I mention this part is a nightmare? If my back holds out, I'll finish the undercoating removal tomorrow and scrub the frame with something to cut the gas residue. Then I'll be ready to mask and spray it. I also got all of the suspension parts cleaned up except the lowers and the coils.

I'm played out for tonight (and covered in waxy undercoating that smell like gas).

Yeah - It is nasty. Even after pulling everything off that I could, it's still hard to get to some areas. For now, I'm concentrating on the frame section between the 1st and second body mounts (core support to cab front). I will most likely got to the extreme front of the frame horns in this batch as well. I intend to go all the way back, but I'm going to do that in stages. What I found that works reasonably well is to wet the area very well with the gas (or another solvent if you find a better one) and scrape off as much as possible. I used the side of the toothbrush, but a small putty knife may work OK of some of the flatter areas. I then douse it again and wipe it off with a paper shop towel, then I scub the stubborn stuff and keep it wet with gas. Finally wipe all the residue off. Once the stuff has been 'cut' with the gas, Super Clean works good to remove the oily residue.

Herb

BTW - acetone cuts it very well, but flashed off too quickely leaving the undercoating intact.
