Does anyone care about FFW anymore?

It isn't just because the class has trucks in it. The stands clear out for Open Comp, Mod Motor, and Wild Street too.
It's not fun to watch for the average spectator. Especially when they have Pro and Outlaw (and that godforsaken Jet Car) there on the same day.
Racing in TT (or NMRA truck and Lightning) is a chance for a racer to get to run 3 qualifying passes on Saturday, and be placed on a real eliminations ladder to run on Sunday. You also get points that can accumulate so you can get a real nice ring or jacket or trophy. There's contingency, and prize money, and magazine coverage (in NMRA anyways). You have a Ford truck? You get a chance at all of that. Seems like a pretty sweet deal to me. So what if the head of the organization doesn't watch the trucks race? Who cares? You've got a place to race.
You get almost all of the perks and rewards of heads-up racers without anywhere near the hassle, expense or time involved. That's pretty good when you think about it.

We get to race on a track prepped for 6 second cars. You usually do not get that on T&T nights at your local track.
Also a chance to win a few bucks. I have won over $1000 already and have had magazine coverage. All from running FFW and NMRA events.
Why do you think NHRA starts off w/ Top Fuel. Its too get buts in the stands, because it is not hard to find a seat when pro-stocks are out there. Everybody is usually in the pits waiting for the fuelies or F/Cs to start up and these are multi-million dollar set-ups.
Not everybody can be the big draw.

Sad, but true, Suavy. Last season I took my 20 year old son with me to a couple events while he had his college break. He headed to the bleachers with our video camera, telling me he was going to film some of the other race cars before tough truck runs.
On a pass I made, myself and the other driver both hit within a couple thousandths of our dials...and we both cut 00 something lights. My son is telling me how much he liked such a close race. Being proud of myself, I make a comment about wether or not the crowd got a kick out of it. He jokingly said he didn't know, they all headed to the bathroom when TT started do our elimination rounds....problem was...the crowd really did run off.
I really don't mind, I just refuse to take myself too seriously. I get my fun from the friendships and respect I give and get from my fellow racers. After all, that's what it's all about anyway.

I remember going to the track with him once when he won first place.
So it is as you say about us so what if no one likes to see us race I will keep racing any ways!
Lord willing!
Keep the faith Lightning brothers and sisters!
I'm not to in favor of the new super lightning's that are being made right now but it may just be what we need to get more attention.
Peace,

I think maybe some of the novelty of quick pickups may have worn off. People get so use to seeing high eleven second trucks, they just shrug it off.
A poster above had a good point also, it may be more than just trucks. Handicap racing is fun for us, and fun for our family and friends, but the average fan usually isn't even sure what the heck is going on. I can't tell you how many conversations I have heard sitting in the stands where people have no clue why one guy won over the other.
Like I said, I do it for fun anyway, and fun it is...LOL.
One thing to remember is that there are usually two types of fans:
1) fans who race - these folks watch most all of the classes (that they can) and watch with the "how does this affect me?" or "I can actually do that!" or "I can use that idea on my car/launch/combo/etc." kind of mentality. These are the fan base that FFW was originally create to cater to. These guys are us - in the stands to watch between the rns we make ourselves. These fans are well vesed in the rules and reg of racing and understand the class structures.
2) normal people - these guys don't have a clue and usually don't have a raceable vehicle. These fans ony know what they read about in the recent MM&FF magazine and they believe Road&Crack 1/4 mile times are as true as the Bible. These folks are there to watch the speed spectacle and most are secretly hoping to see a wreck
because its "cool". These are also the guys who always have a brother or a freind who's cars can "whip your a$$".
The unfortunate truth is that there are more of the #2 fans out there and they have money to spend (because its not going into their race vehicle or tow rig). As more event cater to the #2 fans, the race promoters will follow the money, not the racers.

lx guy makes a very good point, i do feel lucky to be able runmy truck at these facility's preped the way they are.
however, i think we can make some changes to be a bigger draw or more fun to watch.
the #1 thing we need to do is to GO FASTER!!!!!!!!
nobody wants to watch a 14 second truck run a perfect number everytime
they want to see the faster trucks real the slower ones in.
we need to have some rule changes to give an incintive to go faster.

Incentives to go quicker is the key to increased interest for spectators and enhanced fun factor for the particapents . Some form of handicap is necessary to keep costs acceptable and to have enough parity to give all a chance, but handicaps need not be 100% of time differential. A multiplier can be added to penalize slower contestants and reward quicker ones.

where are the lots of incentives. running down the competition can be a double edge sword.
about me being delusional
everyone likes to run there truck full tilt. dont you?
with rocks being the top qualifier he should be rewarded for that.
he should be able to pick his first round competition (probably you)
and if he qualifiys quicker then 10.99 he should get a cushin in the breakout.
for example
truck 1 dial in is 10.5
truck 2 dial in is 13.5
both reaction times are the same
truck 1 runs a 10.3
truck 2 runs a 13.75
truck 1 should win
that would be a good incentive for the fast trucks to show up to the events

I'd "sandbag" to high tens qualifying and kill anyone that didn't get a cushion by breaking out every run. I like rewarding faster but that is far from a solution.

if you qualify at a high ten and run a low ten. i doubt you would win
but if you broke out by a thousandth you would not be going home because of that alone. (get it now?) that would be the incentive.
i dont know exactly how tt is run out in the east and south, but out west we never even see a ladder after qualifying!!!!
and it does seem a little unfair on who always gets the bye rounds
i will definatly be at two tt events again this year
i think we can improve the event with a little more planning
Bye run...WTF is a bye run...
. I pissed off the wrong guy about 15 events ago. It kind of reminds me of the Seinfeld Soup **** episode....no bye for you!!!!
Seriously....The bye is decided using the "yank it out-a-my-*** method". If Pinto accidently yanks my name...he sticks it back up his *** and yanks out another. That was my reward for sayiong something everyone else was saying first. I made the mistake of being the patsy...when I looked around...I was alone...LOL.
Oh well...Fock em and their bye.

thats some funny chit there!!!!
one of the boys out here got in line with the rest of us. he was told to run with one of the stangs up front. he said, NO NO i am with tuff truck!!!!!
they said if you want to run get in line and line up now!!!
so he runs with the stang, then he is told to get back in line right away and run in TT
so he gets in line (the back of course) and runs again!!!!
low and behold there was another truck in the pits who never even stagged!!!
the trucked that never staged got the bye.
this story here is only to demonstrate the need for a ladder that is displayed ahead of time
