just got back from running around for estimates.

ford wants $3196 for just the things they see before the tear down. two fenders, badges, bumper, impact bar, all mounting brackets, paint, labor

this doesnt include an alignment or any suspension things that may of went wrong since i got pushed 7 foot into another car while parked. the frame is bent just a little bit on the right side of the truck from what i can see, maybe like 10mm at most.

i figure i take the ford estimate to the guy and see if he can come up with the $3200 by the end of the week and then ill go buy the parts seperate and have cobrasusie paint and i know how to tear apart a front end as far as fenders and that goes... thats easy stuff. the good thing about doing it this way is i will have alot of extra money left over and will be getting some more goodies for the truck.

if he cant get the money by the end of the week then im going through my insurance and getting it fixed and hes not going to like that when they come for him.

holy crap, u got pushed far! well i think your suspension will be alright. might be a little off allignment but even then i think thats the most that probably happened to it. You say your frame is bent a little bit? That suck, i hear the frames on these trucks are really strong, so once you ******* them up your basically screwed. Hopefully you get everything fixed.

Don't count on getting any money out of that guy as it likely won't happen! Anyone irresponsible enough to be operating a vehicle w/o insurance probably doesn't have a pot to **** in!! You may can go under your "uninsured motorist" coverage for your property damage with less of a deductible, (used to be $250), as opposed to using your collision coverage that likely has a higher deductible. On the other hand, in a case like this with no BI involved your collision coverage may be primary. The insurance laws have probably changed since I was an adjuster back in the 70's

when my truck was rearended by a dump truck the guy was very sorry and said he would cut me check as soon as I got the estimate,I got the estimate the same day of the accident, well 4 months later the guy coughed up $2200 out of the $2700 it cost to fix my truck. atleast you have a police report.
I would get on this guy ASAP for the money, and make sure you get your truck looked at by a good body shop and get a final total price before you actually get paid from this guy. ford says $3200 now and then will hit you with a $4000 bill for "extra labor and parts"
Better yet just drop your truck off at a shop get it fixed by your insurance company and have them go after him for the money.
GOOD LUCK.

Dude, that totally sucks.

Shouldn't the jackass driving without insurance automatically loose his licencse for a year?

i know that's how it works in NJ...

im in the navy in north chicago. it happened on base and i was in my room. the guy has to have insurance to get base stickers so im thinking he had insurance and as soon as he got his stickers to get on and off of base he either let it run out or dropped it since he thought he didnt need it anymore. he has till friday to come up with the money or im filing a claim and letting the insurance go after him. i took it to a ford dealership and a body collision shop today. the truck drove fine, drove it about an hour today getting the estimates done. it just hurts to look at it....

if he can get the money by friday then i will order all parts seperate and put them on myself. then get the whole truck painted by cobrasusie cause the guy will be thinking that ford is fixing it so ill have alot of money left over from this jackass. im hoping for it to go that way so i can get more then just 2 fenders, a bumper and a new impact bar out of the whole mess.

Unbelievable!!!!

Hopefully all of it works out for you. I can't believe him not driving around with insurance. Up here that is somewhere near a $5000 fine alone.

VA makes no sense to me, but here if you pay $500 to the DMV, you can legally drive uninsured.

The $500 gets you no insurance from the state either.

If the guy who hit you is on active duty I would let his superiors know. They should NJP the knuckle head. Also recommend letting your insurance company handle the issue from the beginning to end. This way you will get the truck repaired without any variables. You can always take him to small claims court to recover your deductible.
