people like that guy are the reason insurance costs are through the roof in my area. To many jerkoffs getting in accidents without insurance, so the people who do have it wind up fitting the bill in the end with higher premiums.

hope everything works out for ya.

Take this mans advice. Do not handle this outside of your insurance company. He is at 100% fault here and let them go after him for the $$$$$.

Bob is right, especially In IL (insurance companies will have an agreement with the Body Shop to protect you if something turns up anfter repair)....he won't have a license until you sign off on repair and payment

I'd be questioning the Transmission as well

F*ck it... i just filed the claim. i pay $332 a month for stuff like this so im going to use it. the cool thing is that the insurance company said i can take the vehicle to whatever shop i want and they will do the estimate there and then get it repaired wherever i want it done.

spoke with a local insurance guy this morning. he told me that uninsured motorist coverage is only for if i got injured and the other guy couldnt cover it. so i have to pay my deductible to get my truck fixed... which is $1000 on collision. i dont have $1000 to fork out for a deductible cause of this senseless ******* who decided to hit a parked car.

should i take this up to small claims court and try to get him to pay the deductible or is it just a waste of time??

Why is it going on your collision? You didn't collide with anyone. Maybe someone in the biz can chime in. Comprehensive doesn't cover something like this?

Your comprehensive should cover it. You were not driving.

I'ts pretty common knowlege in VA about the $500 to drive w/o insurance.

I learned it in high school drivers ed and my college "insurance and risk management" course.

It makes ZERO sense to me.

--

I H8 Virginia, they make no sense here. Some guy gets elected Governor for eliminating the yearly car tax a few years ago.......so why am i getting a $400 bill for "personal property tax" on my CAR.

The more I live here, the more backwards things seem........

I just got off the phone with my mom, who is a VA State Farm Agent, 20+ years in the biz.

The one guy a few posts back is 100% correct. She told me that it should fall under "uninsured motorists" and you should not have to pay a DIME.

The laws and policies varry state-to-state, but no way is it collision...........maybe comprehensive.

Who is your insurance through?

In Illinois,

You buy liability, and also buy uninsured/underinsured bodily injury coverage.

You can also buy comprehensive, collision, and/or underinsured/uninsured property damage coverage.

If you buy comprehensive, then you won't be able to buy un/underinsured property damage, since it is already covered by the comprehensive.

So Gary, the agent was wrong if they told you it's covered by your collision. It instead is covered by your comprehensive. And comprehensive claims do not make your premiums go up.

I'm afraid it wouldn't fall under your comprehensive coverage as that would only apply to a collision with an animal or should something fall on your vehicle such as a tree, rock, hail, etc.
However, I still believe that you could claim this under the property damage section of your U/M coverage especially since you were not moving and not even in the vehicle. Under U/M property damage would carry a manditory 250 ded. (That's better than 1k). Of course, your carrier would prefer a collision claim/deductible. Call the Insurance commissioners office of your state and inquire...don't just take what your agent says.

My truck (Not my L thank God) was hit and run in a grocery store parking lot. Repairs were paid for by my insurance under my comprehensive coverage. This was in Washington State, your state may vary.

IL doesn't require maximum un/underins. coverage deductibles.

Like I said, IL differentiates between bodily injury un/under coverage and property damage un/under coverage.

Collision = your fault.

Comprehensive = not your fault (as is usually the case in natural acts). And if you buy comprehensive in IL, you can't also buy un/under property damage because they already consider it covered by the comprehensive. They could treat them separately, but don't.
