tick, tick, tick

I'm hearing a ticking sound when I'm driving at low speeds... it sounds like it's coming from the rear of the truck. Any ideas??

I would check your tires to see if you picked up a nail or stone.

Leeann, I had a tick, tick, tick sound months back and it turned out to be the 4 lb pulley. The three allen head bolts that hold it on had slightly backed off The head of one rode in the raduis of the pulley a bit so I fixed that and tightned them back up.

what kind of pulley do you have ?

wheel loose

had the same problem 2 years ago. Coming down 95 from the track and when i slowed down i was hearing a tick, tick. Then when i pulled onto my street and slowed to go in the driveway, heard it again.

Hand tightened my wheels on one side and forgot to crank them down. All my lugs were loose and the noise was the wheel tapping on the hub!!! What a moron!!!

Try sitting still and free reving the motor. (that'll tell you if it's the motor)
If not try rolling fwd, putting it in neutral and shuting off the motor. Then you'll know more clearly where it's coming from and can rule out the motor/tranny.

I've already dealt w/ almost wrecking the gen 1 and the mystery of the cut brake lines... so I really wouldn't doubt it!

Anyway, I do have a 4lb pulley. I went to my parents house and I had my mom drive it so I can hear where exactly it's coming from. It turns out it really isn't coming from the rear, even though from inside the truck it sounds like it is. It's coming from the front driver side wheel... Almost sounds like the center cap is loose or something. All of the lugnuts are tight, so I don't know. I'm not gonna stress over it and drive around looking like a lost puppy with my head hanging out the window. I just wanted to make sure it was nothing major.
Thanks for the help guys.

Paul you're one of the last people I'd expect that from!

I had a little ticking noise from the rear. If u look above the differential you will see a metal line that should be screwed into place, mine was loose so it would hit everytime the truck bounced up and down a bit. nothing major but it simple to check and wouldnt hurt, goodluck.

Check your plugs ASAP. Sounds like one's about to blow.

Doubt it's a plug on an 04.

Like RED 92 said, make sure the pulley is tight.
Otherwise, I believe wheel bearings tick when they go bad, but I can't imagine why you would have a wheel bearing problem on such a new vehicle.

haha i did that today.... I felt a wierd vibration that just seemed to happen over bumps on this new road.. Though a shock might be bad on the front so i took my hat off and stuck my head out the window driving down the street... Got a wierd look from the lady behind me in my side mirror. I just smiled and waved while hanging out....

Problem was the new road had some funky little bumps all in a row.

LA,

Have you pulled the center cap off yet? I had a vehicle that had a broken platic tab floating around in the center cap. Drove me crazy for month before I found it accidently and then couldn't stop laughing at myself!

It would be worth pulling the wheel and checking the brakes too. Parts can fail - check the pads and the brake hardware.

Herb
