reverse not working

ok so now another problem with my L, the reverse wont work until i drive it for a few miles and then the o/d light will start to flash and after that i can use reverse, this truck keeps giving me problems, if its anything serious i think im going to sell it and get a TT Quattro 3.2, I'm just getting sick of always having my truck in the shop....any ideas on what it could be?

Do you have headers?

could possibly an o/2 wire melted on the header. you should check all the fuses. sometimes this will ground out after melting and cause it to blow a tranny fuse

Mine had similar symptoms and it ended up being one of the O2 sensor cables melting and grounding out against the passenger side header.

-W/ a blown fuse you will still have good reverse. It is a hydraulic engagement.
-Step 1 is always check fluid. Check for proper level, discoloration, burnt odor.

Since the problem seems to occur when cold(based on your complaint), try putting it in D1 while cold. If there is no engine braking it would indicate a fault in the low/reverse clutch or a problem w/ the low/reverse piston or seals.

BTW, how is your 2-3 shift?

d1 works fine from a cold start... 2-3 shift is kinda high, maybe 2900 rpms or so just cruising

I appologize man.It was late and my post was somewhat vague. I should have said let your foot off the gas in D1 at around 10-15mph or so and see if it feels like the truck noses downward as if the e-brake were on or something.

letting off the gas at a 20 mph roll makes you kind of lean forward, and i noticed the reverse starts working as soon as tghe o/d light starts flashing, never before that....
