Motor pulling tips?

I've almost got everything off, and down to the long block. Should I just pull the motor, or should I pull the tranny at the same time?

I have to admit that I have never pulled an motor with an auto. How is the converter/tranny hooked up? Is it a matter of unbolting the bell housing, and then just sliding the motor forward(converter is splined to the tranny)?

Make sure you remove the 3 bolts holding the gas pedal so you dont smack a few holes in the driver side valve cover.

If the starter and flywheel are removed unbolt the bellhousing and support it with a jack stand. Then pull the motor and to securly hold the tranny up place two long bolts in the bellhousing and use a piece of 2x4 to hold it up by the frame.

Just some tips...

I just finished pulling mine a couple days ago, get under the truck and remove all the the bolts (6 i think) to the torque converter( remove the little access plate you used to lock the motor in place when installing a lower pulley. The torque converter will now stay attached to the transmission and you will have to move it forward very little( this is good because if you leave the motor mounts and oil cooler, etc. there is very little room to move the motor forward anyways. I did not remove the hood but you may need to depending on how much the motor is intact ( I had removed my intake, heads alreadys)
good luck, watch out for the radiator when pulling the motor.

I'm going to pull the radiator just to give some extra room, and prevent damage.

Guess I will leave the heads on since I will be putting a long block back in it's place. Give us some practice

Keep the suggestions coming guys.

Casey, I made one of these like suggested in the service CD. It bolts to where the alternator gose and to the back top tranny bolt holes. Then you hook up to that the motor comes right out. I avoid taking the gas pedal out by unbolting the motor mounts. Then I slide the motor forward and lift it right out.
