Pulling eaton, heads and T.B.... Please help.

Ok guys 2maro Im pulling the blower to be sent off to get ported. Also im going to be pulling the heads for stage 2's. Along with the T.B. Anybody thats done this or any of the 3 things are there any tricks that would help me? Or any problems that I may incounter? Or anything that I should really watch for? I dont get the heads for another week and a half so the motor will sit covered with a bag for that time. While I have many other things to do. A friend of mine thats helping is trying to get TQ specs for me.

Are you planning on resetting the cams yourself?

How do you set the cam sproket to the cam orientation? Or how does the cam sprocket mount to the cam?

Thanks,
Mark

In you’re using the same cams. Before removing them take a scratch awl and mark the link on the chain and the corresponding tooth on the cam sprocket. Do the same on the crank end for added insurance. If you’re doing new cams I certainly would suggest getting a pro involved. Cam timing is critical and can be quite tricky for us novices. My first encounter with them was with a 911 S Porsche. In which I was dealing with a very, very spendy engine rebuild. What did I do? Called in the Calvary. Period!

Edit: Forgot the last part. Sprockets screw on to the end of the camshaft. Reverse threads. Don't forget to mark R & L.

Do I have to worrie about the lobes or valves moving? Im down to the heads now. It seems like its going to be very hard to get the passenger side head back in perfect w/ gaskits and all... because of all the lines. Would it be easier to pull the motor???????

The heads hit the fire wall? Can I pull the motor without removing the front clip? Has anybody replaced there heads without pulling the motor?

In speaking with my friend at a SVT Dealership he informs me the heads can be removed from the engine bay. However, he much prefers to do them “cab off”. Realizing that most people don’t have hoists in their garage he says just yank the sucker!
After rereading your post I see that you are indeed replacing the heads. Therefore you are going to need to reset the cams. Please! Please! Call in the Calvary for this job. Remember if you’re only ½ link off on the chains or have your cams wrong in relationship to the valve timing. You’re in for big trouble. Just pay the $125 for someone who knows what their doing to set them correctly. It’s very cheap insurance! You can shade tree mechanic everything else.

I live in a very small town where I and everyone hear bad storys about the simplest motor projects. I cant take it out of town for it would be way to much, also I already have it takin all the way down to the heads. What I do have to help me is the forum, some shop #'s, and 2 friends that know a lot about motors, But have not done this befor... so im pretty much stuck doing it myself. Now... I have to mark the exact spot on each chain and sprockit and then... Do I take the head off with or without the cams on them? Then?

Suavy's heads were also studded too. but there are plenty of ways around that too.

cam timing was for the most part easy for me. the ford tech manual has step by step instruction. also make sure that you dont collide the valves into the piston.
