Got Brakes???

I wanted to put some better brakes on my truck, but there doesn't seem to be much out there. So who makes a good brake kit for our tucks. I don't need 6 piston calipers so I stop like a super car, just want to stop a little better than stock. I also don't want to spent over 2grand on the brakes for my truck, I already did on my car I love them but probably overkill on the truck! Thanks!

Go here for rotors and Hawk Pads. He runs his L in open-road events and hits 180 mph so he has to know how to make his L STOP!

Gadget: What modifications if any did you have to make to your truck to do that install. Also, did you get the rear kit too? Thanks.

No mods to make it fit, it's a direct bolt on.

Rear is still bone stock.

I emailed SSBC twice when shopping for kits, and they never replied, but todd has replied to my emails even when he's at races himself on a weekend. Customer service means alot to me.

So everything fit inside the stock wheels? On the site it mentions modifying the caliper.

some big brake kits you have to mod the caliper IF you use the 99-00 wheels but I thin the 01 and up wheels are ok.But don't take that to heart.sTan

I have the powerslot rotors in the front which i got at cost from a buddy of mine at 130 bucks each and then i put hawk competition pads all around and my 4700 pound beast stops better than my old mans 03 cobra by a good bit, i plan on doing the rear powerslots shortly, but the rotors and hawk pads are a great complement to each other, oh and verry minimal dust accumulation i was verry impressed.

I have Lightning brake alternatives cataloged here .
The Wilwood kit is the best value under $2K.

Unless your car weighs 5,000 lbs, I would say that the big brakes are less overkill on the truck than the car.

As a previous big brake consumer, you may already know this, but your single-stop distances will not be significantly lower with a big brake kit. Single-stop distance is ultimately a function of the tires. If you can lock the brakes (engage the ABS) now, you have all of the stopping power you need.

A big brake kit will just allow for repeated stops without heat-induced fade.

I know for a fact that soon (in about three months) there will be a used TCE Willwood kit for sale. I can't tell you how I know.
