A buddy of mine ran a 6#er for a long time with no tuning

I would never do that. As the rest have said get one of the supporting vendors to give you a good tune.

Never under any circumstances should you use the "performance tune" with any more than a 1.5-2lb pulley upgrade. It is not even reccomended by diablo for anything but stock boost levels.
The pulley tunes are very agressive with their timing curve, but the performance tune is even higher by approx 2 degrees.
i use the pulley tune with up to 8 lbs of pulley, but all trucks are different in there tolerance to timing.
If you can hear detonation even with the backed down pulley tune,do not run wot at all. Tip in detonation will not be helped by wot adjustments on the Predator so be careful. You can add toluene to your fuel for a temporary fix while you get a custom tune or even better, a dyno tune.
Be careful!

Just reread original post. Get those plugs changed to colder ones right away. Just for safety I would make sure you keep the fuel filter at very short change intervals. 4K - 6k as it is cheap insurance. I will change mine at every oil change for added safety.
