Pinging w/ 6# pulley

Hi,

I own a 01L and I just recently installed a 6# pulley on it. I have also purchased a chip tuner to reflash my chip. My truck is stock otherwise except for a cat back system.

The tuner module comes with a default program for pulley upgrades but when I flashed the computer with it I get pinging around 4,000 RPM.

I have colder plugs and a cooler stat going in but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a pinging problem with the added boost and if you did anything to get rid of it besides octane booster. I do not feel like purchasing octane booster for every tank of gas as I drive the truck often.

Is there anything I can do or should I drop down to a 4# pulley? I have tried retarding the timing. Will raising the A/F ratio help?

If it's the Predator, use the pulley tune, drop the timing by 10% and add fuel by 10%. This usually stops the pinging. You have 93 octane in the tank, right?

You bought a "chip tuner" to reflash you chip? You mean you bought a Predator to reflash you computer right?
Did you purchase the Pred from a vendor that does custom tunes via email? Or did you by it from ebay or some other big mail order company?
My advise for now is to subtract 10% timing and add 10% fuel for now..This might not even totally cure it. The tune that come in the Pred SUCKS.. I ran it for a bit with no problems but others have blown up motors running it.
GET A CUSTOM TUNE...ASAP!!!!!

P.S I gained 20rwhp and 30rwtq with a custom tune over the Pred pulley tune.

Going thru the same thing.
Bought my predator from rpm outlet, they're still working on a custom tune (6 tunes so far)....still pinging.
I'm looking for someone to custom tune it for me, suggest you do the same.

REM down in Margate, FL tunes with Diablo if my memory serves me right. Tim at REM seems to be a pretty good tuner.

That said, I run SCT. So take my advice with a grain of salt.

There are a few good tuners here in Tampa that can help you out. With a stock bottom end and a 6lb pulley.....I would definitely go with a custom dyno tune.

Maybe try taking the tuner out and uninstalling the tune?

A buddy of mine ran a 6#er for a long time with no tuning and had no problems.

In any case, its worth a shot.

What does pinging sound like .... when i got my 01 last week i think the dealer filled it up with cheap gas because it would make a noise (kinda hard to describe) around 3500 rpm ... It wasnt too loud but i heard it . Ever since getting the old gas out i cant recall hearing anything, Do you think my truck was pinging ? And if not give me an idea of what it sounds like so i can look out for it whenever i mod the truck

thanks

shane

Welcome to the family OrlandoBolt

Awesome choice of Mods, CONGRATS

A lightning is a very unique vehicle, so much so that a simple bad tank of gas, wrong tune, clogged fuel filter or injector, can AND HAS TONS OF TIMES resulted in bye bye motor. So tunning them is 100% more important to do correctly than prob any other vehicle in the world.

We should never buy a chip or tuner from walmart, (RPM outlet = Same) You buy them from a Lightning Tuner that can give you a true custom tune for your truck, your fuel, your octane, your elevation, your driving habbits, and your mods.

Diablo is known for aggressive off the shelf custom tunes,
I tried MANY myself a few years back on my L (NFG)

I believe many say to use the NON Pulley tune that came with the Predator (yes even know you have a pulley) if the +10% -10% trick doesn't work.

We have many supporting Vendors here that can help you.
As mentioned Johnny Lightning tunes Predators
and Sal of PSP does also.

Supporting Vendors are here https://www.f150online.com/vendors.cfm

Congrats, Welcome, AND BE CAREFUL,
do not let it detonate, it's extremely dangerous, more so than you can possibaly imagine
