I always keep up with my buddies Cobra at the track and most of the times beat him to 1/8th mile line, but then takes over and wins the 1/4. Granted my truck is modded, but his car is more heavily modded than my truck.

 

I think your story sounds believable. The race from a 10mph roll has me wondering though. From 10-50mph, I think it would be a close race. After that, he would be walking away from you. Not calling you a liar. Just my experience.

 

I knew Lightnings were fast when I bought mine, but when I raced it for the first time I was very impressed to say the least. I was in basically the same situation as you, my buddy had just gotten his Mazda RX-7 twin turbo about 2 weeks before I got my truck, so when I got my truck we raced and I got him good twice in a row from a dead stop. Very impressed.

This guy did not come on here to bash Cobras, he simply stated his experience in a particular race. I'm sure if you guys had graced Black-02 with your John Force-like driving abilities things would have been different.

LOL... Josh, don't take it to heart. Round here this is normal. Sad part is that quite a number of the really knowledgable guys have gone else where because of the daily abuse on thier experience and intelligence.

I have been blessed with a job in the plant where the terminator engine for the 03 Cobra is made. There is a bunch of guy's in my plant who have bought the street fighter package from Littio who owns alternative performance and from JDM. Basically the same package. Chip, 3 lb upper pulley and full exhaust, kind of a low 11 sec package. These guy's are doing real well and I had one with this package hand me my azz before!

People may call up the BS flag on this one but I beat one with my tow vehicle... Well it's not my tow vehicle anymore but it still is a big heavy A$$ Sierra Denali..

I believe it! My brother has an '01 S4 (TT V6 car) that's got aftermarket turbos, intercoolers, and most importantly good tuning. 400rwhp in a AWD, 3700lb car. I'd be shocked if it didn't run 12.0x. It's very quick and the ultimate sleeper.

 

I did not say that I did not believe he beat his buddies Cobra. All I said was that his buddy apparently does not know how to drive the Cobra.
I had a Lightning that ran low 12's , and also a Cobra that ran 11.60's. I am not bashing either. But at no time did a Lightning ever, from the day I bought my Cobra, EVER hole shot me, not on the street, or at the track. Stock vs. stock, or modded vs. modded...And I never had to chase one down..

 

Well i wasn't going to post but i do have a non biased opinion since i have both and 03' Cobra and an 01' Lightning. The Cobra is stock with cat back exhaust and the Lightning has a 4 lber, chip, exhaust, and air intake and the Cobra will win 3 times out of 5 mostly due to bad launching. The Lightning is a well respected truck and can haul some serious a$$, but the Cobra is a superior car if driven correctly. As for the Vette, i wouldn't go around defending one seeing as how my record is about 8-2 against them in my truck and the Cobra, only losing to a Modified Z06 and a supercharged C5.

 

These last two post's sum it up nicely.

 

Your L has the same mods (no exhaust for me) as I have. My best in my L after 5 virgin passes down the strip is 12.81 @ 109. At this same track I have not seen a _stock_ Cobra run 12.8s. They do run 110-111mph, so they would be pulling the L on the top-end, but they do not run that ET (most are 13.0-13.1s bone stock).

Again, I'm trying to compare apples to apples here... these times may very well be considered slow being that I am in Texas, where we don't have the best air.

Glad you've run into some slow Vettes. If you beat a _stock_ Z06 in your _stock_ Cobra, then the guy was in reverse. An LS1 C5 ... it will be a matter of who the better driver is (assuming _both_ cars are really stock).

Oh, and before anyone thinks I'm a Cobra basher... please don't. If I had room in my garage, I'd find an '04. Ford hit a HR with these cars, and sadly I'm afraid Ford is going backwards now.

Stock for stock, the L has no chance. The L will always have to have a lot more mods, and/or rely on the fact its easier to drive in a drag race than the Cobra is (meaning driver error can certainly come into play). Please don't think my 12.8 sec. L can whip up on all the Cobras out there. I'm not saying that in the least. It can't and won't. I would honestly say that if I lined up against a stocker I'd have a good shot ... til ~115mph.
